STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR AND COORDINATION OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT ON INSPECTION REPORT ON FIRMS MANUFACTURING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN KENYA


On 2nd July, 2015 His Excellency the President directed that a countrywide campaign to eradicate illegal potable and traditional spirit and other illicit brews be mounted, spearheaded by Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government in conjunction with elected political leaders.

On 10th July, 2015 I constituted and gazetted an Inter-Agency Taskforce on Control of Potable Spirit and Combat of Illicit Brews vide Gazette Notice No. 5069.

This Taskforce comprises of relevant officers from the National Government and the Council of Governors and among its Terms of Reference (TORs) was to undertake inspection on all firms manufacturing alcoholic beverages.

The Taskforce undertook the inspection exercise between 4th August – 14th August, 2015 targeting 177 firms manufacturing potable and traditional spirit, cereal based alcoholic beverages and opaque beer and has compiled a detailed report and recommended as follows:-
