Also my heartfelt THANK YOU to all those who have supported Calcutta Keepsakes during the last year and have made its products part of your lives.
Times like these and what they bring, are new for each and every one of us. No one was prepared for this. No one knew what this would yield. No one knew that the normal would now be known as the “new normal”. Things, people, creations we knew to be ours ceased to become so. Life is such a constant reminder to take nothing for granted.
But then all was not grey.
This pandemic and the resulting lockdown gave people something that they had forgotten to appreciate – time for themselves. Time for family and loved ones. Time for gratitude. For creativity. For appreciating the mundane. The silence of the night. The first rays of the sun. The birds, and bird songs. The patina on the old window. The odd brick in the symmetry of the wall. It slowed life itself down. Like the peace you feel when you hear bird calls when you go away from the city.
But everything was healing - the broken heart, the polluted air, the scattered thoughts. Things were inching back to normal. The common house sparrow was back in Calcutta too – well it had never really left. But now you did not have to look for it. You could see it. Hear it again, just like long ago. And it tugged at the heart and brought back memories. Pretty much like the proverbial magpies – but instead of shiny things to show off to their mates, these house sparrows brought back little souvenirs, keepsakes, which were part of your life you had forgotten.
We at Calcutta Keepsakes are making these memories into handcrafted birdsongs. Little things you can take away with you, so that you can visit your memories of this beautiful city whenever you want. After all, it is always nice to pause and let happy memories take over.
