The Growth and Development of The town stores, Dhubri, is the life work of Late GANESH CHANDRA ROY, who founded a very modest departmental stores about 92 years ago in 1919,where now stands the new three storied building of the organization. The founder's motto was " Service above Self" and it was his sincere and honest dealings with his clients which made the stores popular among its numerous con
stituents. With the growth of the town, The Town Stores also expanded its scope of work and brought within its fold different types of business catering to the need of its ever increasing numberof clienteles. One such example of expansion is the establishment of the town hotel and Restuarant on 10th March 1950, under the management of the Town store organisation. Another Dream, which the founder fondly cherished in his heart, was to build a house for the town stores with bricks from his own brick field. The growth and development of the Town Stores was naturally the life ambition of Sri Ganesh Chandra Roy but never lost an opportunity to serve the people with his personal capacity in the cause of civic service and educational progress of the people. Sri Ganesh Chandra Roy was the commissioner of Dhubri Municipality for quite a number of years and was also one of the members of the Governing body of the B.N.College at Dhubri. The Greatly increased activities of the Town Stores, were badly in need of more space, not only for proper storage and display of different kinds of material but also to provide amenities to the patrons of the stores. With aview to fulfill The last desire of the Sri.G.C.Roy and with the establishment of the brick field, producing high quality bricks, it is decided in 1958 to replace the old shop on its present site by modern structure, befitting the growing need of the present day set up. The old shop with its godown and space had a working area of 3250 s.ft as compared 5720 s.ft in the ground floor with the Mezzanine of the new building. Two more floors have been added and it is hoped that the area thus obtained will be placed at the disposal of the different departments and convenience of our patrons. The new building is a three storied reinforced concrete framed structure with brick filling walls.The spacious showroom with terrazzo finished pillars and inviting show cases with a wide entrance door is a special feature of the design. The Elevation of the building with Aluminium Letters is very modern and striking in character and can be considered a notable building of the architectural merit not only in the town of Dhubri and probably in whole of this region. The door of this new building is opened to ours patrons on the 16th of October 1959 with the motto, to serve them honestly and efficient with with increasing interest.
