Our Brand new 5785 calendar! We want a better year !bit.ly/4bS7vkz
Let us pray for a better New Year. Time is a key element in Judaism. The first commandment given to the Jewish people was to sanctify time by determining and applying the Jewish calendar and shabbat. We count time both by the monthly cycle of the moon and the seasonal cycle of the sun.
For calendar purposes, the Jewish day begins at nightfall. But looking at the structure of prayer worship, the day starts in the morning, not the night before. Years, too, usually have one fixed beginning, namely, the “New Year”. In Judaism there are four New Years: Rosh Hashana; Tu B'Shvat - the New Year for trees; Passover; and the first of Elul, the New Year for animal tithing (adapted from Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, z"l)

I love the way that pomegranates transform from the winter to their summer fruits. In winter, they have no leaves and look fairly dead, in the spring, the buds appear, and then the leaves and the flowers and fruit bursts with its crown. I love that cycle. it’s reassuring. This design was one of my very first, I still love it and I’m grateful that others do too. I’m constantly searching for new pomegranate designs, and this year I shall be launching a number of new designs in honor of Rosh Hashanah.
The birds were designed by my dear friend Smadar Eshed Z”L, her mother was my ulpan teacher on Kibbutz Gan Shmuel 50 years ago. Smadar and I were very close friends, she was wise and straight taking, she had style and created wonderful artworks of tiles around the kibbutz. She was a friend from that delicious time of early adulthood into older age, with all the stages in-between. Jen Klor created the challah cover which I shall now call the Smadar Challah cover. I really love it, I love incorporating Smadar into my creations. I think she would laugh!

The tower or Citadel has been a source of spiritual and artistic inspiration through the ages. I like to capture the ancient with the modern. A little cheek never hurt!

A beautifully laden table on a splendiferous
tablecloth is so appealing and enticing .it honours the occasion and the people sitting around the table.
In Jewish tradition, the festive table is regarded as a Mini Temple table’s purpose is to help people have a relationship with each other and with God. Perhaps this is one of our strengths sitting around the table, all ages and sharing joy, challenges and knowledge
In the long ago I studied Hebrew at an Ulpan on Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, where Shavuot was celebrated in grand style with each agricultural branch displaying its wares in a large creative parade with decorative floats. There was singing and dancing, a wonderful celebration of the Land.
Later when my children were at school they wore white and wreaths of flowers around their heads.
Later still we went to the Kotel at 3 or 4 in the morning, I thought we would be alone but there were throngs of people of all ages and a glorious congestion. We would listen attentively to the poetry of the book of Ruth. a feast for all our senses.

Jaffa oranges used to be the flagship product of Israeli agriculture and the most famous Israeli brand. They were exported all around the world and are arguably more iconic than the Sabra. There is nothing as sweet as a Jaffa orange. Our fresh and juicy design is a winner, that’s why we have it on so many products. What do you like best?

The Seder plate is the focal point of the Seder. Seder in Hebrew means order. And the one thing we really need in the world today is some order. To beautify and enhance our customs is regarded as a Mitzvah. Our Seder plates acknowledge our traditions but also move forward. I love trying to reinvent the wheel of the Seder Plate. Which is your favourite?
