I'm really looking forward to sitting down with Sarah Searson and local artists this Thursday to talk about the weird/wonderful shapes a creative practice might take, as part of the Artists as Cultural Leaders series. It's on in King's House in Boyle, this Thursday the 22nd at 2 pm. Free but perhaps book through . Thanks to for this gorgeous invitation and to and for supporting it.

This is a gorgeous thing. This year universities around Ireland have been given funding to create awareness around healthy eating. I've been working with NCAD on how this might be done with emphasis placed on joy and creativity and care. In our early conversations last summer, we dreamed about a scenario that involved a student-led society meeting regularly to cook together and mind each other and for this to be part of their creative practice.

We formed a small super group of students and recent graduates whose art involves food/hospitality and made some plans. We started by doing food heritage workshops with every new student as part of their welcome induction.

Well! Here we are six months on. Last night I visited the magic .ncad society meet up and we made soup and dumplings with lots of bells and whistles. This society is led by Liv, a phenomenal final year Illustration student who finds time to organise sessions and bring people together in a particularly magic way. They are currently putting together a recipe book for fellow students.

Thanks to , and especially brilliant Róisín Muldoon, for bringing me into this joyful process and to the super group

Some nocturnal hospitality in the form of DJing at Dónal Dineen's magic Backstory last night. These nights are gold. It's like briefly inhabiting a lovely wonderful village where someone would probably catch you if you fell and cover for you if you messed up. You leave feeling part of a ramshackle unexpected community lump. Thank you for having me, it was an honour. Thanks too to and .

Very joyous hours spent today making caviar out of whiskey. This food was based on the menu from the first diplomatic banquet hosted by free state Ireland in 1928 on the occasion of U.S. Secretary of State, Frank B Kellogg. It was held in the Shelburne Hotel under head chef Otto Wuest. I revisited the menu on the occasion of the monumental exhibition, 'Self Determination'which opened this evening in .

The food was delivered through the crowd on planks accompanied by an obnoxious horn. Fun stuff.

Thanks to Dr. Elaine Mahon for her wonderful research on Irish diplomatic dining. And thanks to Fiona, , and for huge lovely help.
