A message from our chairman:

Hi colleagues,

On this day eight years ago (1st of June 2016) the good ship Courtmacsherry Community Shop set sail into unknown but very choppy waters. The economic background in general wasn’t particularly heartening but in Courtmacshery In particular things were much gloomier. Fast forward to 2024 and I think it is fair to say Courtmacsherry is in a far better place and it is equally fair to say that our shop, thanks to you, has contributed very significantly to making it so.

I want to say “míle buíochas” and offer my heartiest congratulations to all of you, our volunteers and board members, for bringing us so successfully to this point and for your enormous contribution to making our beautiful village of Courtmacsherry the thriving and vibrant place it is today.

No doubt there have been some black and dark days over those eight years for the community as a whole and for some of you personally but your resilience, spirit and willingness to keep on keeping on in spite of everything and in keeping the show on the road daily over those eight years speaks volumes for the type of people you are. Thank you so much for your commitment and dedication. You are remarkable. Congratulations and well done.

Today is a bright day and as we begin Summer 2024 hopefully it is the harbinger of many more. May you and your families have a pleasant, peaceful and enjoyable Summer and may the sun keep shining on you all long into the future.

Having done a little bit of investigating, we believe that the owner of this extremely friendly male neutered cat is from the Timoleague area.

He is an absolute pet, and someone is definitely missing his company.

A seaside village has got the go-ahead to launch the first community shop of its kind in West Cork, and local people will shortly be offered an opportunity to purchase shares in the initiative.
