These are circulating everywhere so be careful! One way to check a note is genuine is to scrape your nail down the side where the blue is on the €20 shown (different notes have different colour sides). The little black horizontal lines should be raised so you should feel the ridge with your nail. These lines are specifically for blind people to help them identify the value of the note. If there’s no ridge you should not accept the note.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to do a litter pick around the area this weekend. Fantastic to see such great community spirit. Anyone else who would like to help out please call to Rooneys Shop where you’ll be provided with litter pickers, bags and a Hi Vis jacket. We would like to thank Monaghan County Council Environment Section for dropping us out more litter pickers and bags this morning and for arranging collection of full bags.

So at 4.45pm today two mystery shoppers from the National Lottery came into our shop. We did not know at the time who these people were. The young girl bought a can of Boost and asked for a scratch card, we asked if she was over 18, she said she was so we asked for ID. She said she didn’t have any so we refused the sale. Next the older woman bought a bottle of Coke Zero and asked for 11 x €1 scratch cards. I informed her the limit was ten scratch cards per customer and was proceeding to give her ten when she said she didn’t want them. She paid for her drink, both asked for and were given receipts for their drinks. A few minutes later the older woman came back into the shop, informed us who she was and that she was working for the National Lottery. She was handing us a test card on which she had ticked ‘Fail’. I asked how did we fail and she said ‘you were going to sell me 11 scratch cards’. I told her ‘No’ I wasn’t, there was ten in the bundle I had taken out for her. When I had informed her that ten was the limit she said she didn’t want them, she wanted to keep her money for something else. She argued and I refused to take the fail notice from her and told her to leave the shop. A few minutes later she returned to the shop door and took photos of me standing behind the counter. I went outside to her and told her she should have asked permission to take a photo of me and I informed her that I was going to take a photo of her car reg and report her to the National Lottery. She then drove her car forward at me. She didn’t hit me! I have made a complaint to the National Lottery. Eleven witnesses were in the shop at the time and 9 cameras inside and outside the shop recorded the entire event, including her attempt to drive over me. Hard enough having a village shop without people telling blatant lies that have the potential to cost hefty fines to ensure their own commission. Deplorable. Rant over!!

The Parade departs the shop at 12.30pm SHARP. Anyone taking part in the parade are advised to arrive at 11.30am.
