This year is the 100th Anniversary of the Soloheadbeg ambush and the start of our War of Independence. When a handful of Gallant Tipperary patriots- tired of the inactivity since the 1916 Rising- decided to take action and declare war against the British Empire. This was followed closely by the rescue of their comrade Sean Hogan off the Train in Knocklong saving him from the hangman. This started a ripple effect of rebellion throughout the country and the Black and Tan terror galvanized the people together. In July 1921, England sought a truce with Ireland. Bringing flesh to Mitchell’s words : ‘Where Tipperary goes, Ireland follows’.
I have been putting off this post because I’m annoyed that I still haven’t finished rewriting the script (2 more weeks🙄) but mostly I’m also very disillusioned about the state of modern Ireland. I never wanted these posts to be political and I don’t want to give my personal opinion on these posts . But if you will indulge me, I can’t not give my opinion if I’m writing on this topic. We fought for 700 years for our freedom and our generation have been very bad shepherds of that freedom. Many will disagree. We are now ‘owned’ by the new ‘imperialist’ superpower of the EU. Our Sovereignty is under threat (if we still even have it), our neutrality is gone (part of the new EU Army) and constantly having referendums which chip away at our Constitution, which is for our protection. Along with the most corrupt politicians, Judiciary, police and a biased media. Our politicians want to be progressive EU poster boys. Don’t mention the current hatred and attack (globally) on Christianity. Today we are fighting an even greater and more evil enemy, a global Neo-Marxist entity. Our children, and ourselves, have been brainwashed by this new culture of progressiveness. We are just puppets on strings. We have all drank the Cool-aid. We have no opposition parties. Even Sinn Fein are pro EU. Ourselves alone- owned and taking orders from Brussels. But everyone is brainwashed. Myself included. Ask yourselves, have we been good shepherds of our hard won freedom? Maybe I’m old fashioned but when I look at their projections for IRELAND 2040 I think the men of 1916 and all our patriots are turning in their graves. But most people will disagree. My current opinion is irrelevant to the topic at hand.
Back to the topic, I’m having great difficulty cutting 70 pages from the script. It’s difficult to confine such an action filled story to 120 pages which is the industry standard. I won’t bore u further with script details but I intend to shop it around RTE, TG4 etc as soon as I can. I believe if it is not made this year it may not get made. I will keep u all updated. I will be doing everything in my power to get it made this year. I believe now more than ever, it is a story that needs to be told.

I will give the final word to Dan Breen... 1967.
‘’... it’s very hard to live up to idealism. That was the great thing about the old Fenian faith. Once you kept that in front of you and read the gospel of Mitchell and Tone and kept it before you.... but you cannot expect the youth to do that today. The teenager today is more interested in the latest pop than in something about the past. A Nation that forgets its past history , it’s glories, sorrows and woes, well they’ve lost something very sacred and it’s hard to regain it. .... The Irish are the crookedest people in the world, not the plain, ordinary people, but all those who became politicians - lawyers and that sort. They have no conscience. I was a politician for years, but I came to it out of the womb of revolution, you see. I didn’t go into politics; I was pushed in. But the professional politicians and lawyers, they’d sacrifice Christ 6 times a week and the only thing they’d be sorry for on Saturday night is that they didn’t have another day to crucify Him. In order to be a professional politician you must be crooked. You won’t be successful if you’re not. ... I went into politics in 1923, there was no one looking for the job, because there was no money in it. All we got was that you had to walk or cycle through the country to keep things going. But in the past 15 or 20 years it has become a rat race. .. if Tone or Emmet came back tomorrow and there was an election, neither of them would have a chance of a seat in any of the parties. They wouldn’t have a chance of being nominated even. ....
I’m still as passionately fond of Ireland as ever. I love the hills and dales, but they mean nothing to me without the people. Not in this rat race we are having today. That’s not the civilization I want to see. We’re not a wealthy country, and I’m glad, because wealth brings decadence with it very quickly. This could be a marvelous country if ran properly.’’
