"This clear and fresh pinot noir is brimming with red-cherry, pomegranate and rose-hip aromas as well as notes of rosemary stems, bark and tea leaves. Firm, very fine tannins uphold the red fruit on the palate with a medium body and a tight mineral finish. Better after 2025."

Hans himself holds 500 years of wine making lineage, selling up the family estate in Switzerland to move to Marlborough. Of course, you don’t offload 500 years of winegrowing history to do something by halves and absolutely everything what Hans does is of ‘über’ quality.

Stonier is now back in local family ownership for the first time since the Stonier family sold the winery in 1999. Three local families; Drummond, McLeod & Thickins acquired the winery, vineyard, and brand in December 2022.

“Growing up on the Peninsula, I always looked at Stonier as the benchmark fine wine producer. Brian had a very clear ambition to put Mornington Peninsula fine wine on the global stage…and he achieved that before he sold out I the late 1990’s. In 1999 Decanter awarded the Stonier 1997 Reserve Pinot Noir. Best New World Red Wine of the Year. This award was followed by the 2001 International Wine Challenge in London where Stonier won the Trophy for Best Chardonnay and Best White Wine of Show for its 1999 Stonier Reserve Chardonnay. As Andrew Caillard MW wrote in his book The Essence of Dreams “this was a coming of age for Peninsula Wine”.

It is our ambition to continue on that tradition and cement Stonier as a leading and relevant Global fine wine brand. We have some of the oldest and best vineyards on the Peninsula, a pedigree for great wine, and the people with a combined experience of quality farming, great winemaking and building world class wine businesses.

Xanadu Wines Chief Winemaker, Glenn Goodall has taken out the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year award.

Visiting Australia in 1989 when he was just 19, the Kiwi fell into wine whilst looking to fund a surfing holiday in Port Macquarie, with his first introduction to the industry at Cassegrain Wines. Nine years later, Glenn had completed vintages in Bordeaux, South Africa, New Zealand and California, all whilst finishing his Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Oenology at the University of Adelaide (Roseworthy). In 1999, Glenn joined the team at Xanadu in Margaret River, becoming Senior Winemaker in 2006.

Michael Brajkovich of Kumeu River wines in Auckland has been honoured as the 2024 Winemakers’ Winemaker, at a ceremony during ProWein trade fair in Düsseldorf.

Presented by the Institute of Masters of Wine and the drinks business since 2011, the award recognises outstanding achievement in winemaking. Masters of Wine winemakers and the previous award recipients voted Brajkovich as this year’s winner.

In 1989 Michael passed the MW examination becoming New Zealand's first Master of Wine. Recognised by many as the pioneer of the Chardonnay movement in New Zealand and for spearheading the use of screw cap closures in the country. In 2001 he transitioned all Kumeu River Wines to screw cap closure.
