What an honor to have Vincent Girardin’s commercial director, Marco Caschera, visiting us this week for an exclusive tasting of the 2021 vintage! 🍷

Our team were treated to an incredible lineup of Burgundian gems, including several outstanding Meursault Premier Crus, Volnay and Santenay. It was a privilege to get a professional perspective and taste these exceptional 2021 offerings from this renowned producer.

Marco shared invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs of the 2021 growing season, as well as the attention to detail that goes into crafting these beautiful wines. The attention to quality and terroir expression was evident in every sip.

Congratulations to Maison Champagne Delamotte & Champagne Larmandier-Bernier for being selected for Tatler Dining Champagne Guide 2023 with Sarah Heller MW. Tatler Dining was uncorking a collection of over 60-plus hand-selected champagne that represents the pinnacle of this art form – each bottle a narrative of its own, waiting to unfold on your palate.

Quite primary and sherbety, with a spritz of lime, this has a subtle wet clay earthiness beneath, enriched with soothing herbs like lavender and rosemary. An explosive mousse on the entry brings lots of brothy savouriness to the front palate along with a marked citrus rind bitterness – a very salutary opening. The finish is strikingly bitter, retaining its citrus perfume for an exquisitely long finish that fades away gently, leaving subtle notes of yeast on the clean-textured finish.

Larmandier-Bernier Vieille Vigne du Levant Grand Cru 2013
The Vieille Vigne is characteristically rich and dark in tone, with baked pear fruit and puff pastry, brown butter and tropical florals like hibiscus and frangipani. The fruit too becomes more tropical on the palate, with pineapple and even green mango on top of a savoury, miso yeastiness. The acidity is bracingly fresh and helps balance the breadth of the middle. There is a fine toasty yeast quality to finish once the oiliness has cleared away. Tense and complex as well as richly gourmand.

Echézeaux is one of the largest grands crus of the whole Côte d’Or. It is a grand cru vineyard covering the slopes above the Clos de Vougeot in the Flagey-Echézeaux. There are 11 different climates or plots on Echezeaux, which is around 37 ha in total. In general, the plots lower down the slope have more clay and yield, and this normally gives richer wines. The plots higher up the hillside have more sandy soils, and this normally will yield more elegant wines.

Grands-Echézeaux, the 9.1 ha climat is in the commune of Flagy-Echézeaux, just north of Vosne-Romanée. Unlike in Echézeaux, it is reasonably homogenous. The soil here is free-draining, and consists of pebbly limestone with some clay, allowing the vines to grow deep root systems, making for high-quality fruit.
