🇫🇷Xavier Vignon : Cornas 2001🍷

In 2001, the aromatic Syrah grape variety expresses itself by a lot of aromatic richness and draws its freshness from the granitic soil of the appellation. Hand-harvested and vinified in whole grapes. Extended maceration to obtain a concentrated wine built for years of aging, with an almost intense red color. Extended maturation in large new and old tuns, favoring the softening of the tannins and limiting the contribution of woody notes. Bottled in 2022

⛰️Terroir: The distinguishing feature of the Cornas vineyard lies in its particular amphitheater shape It is believed that the Rhone River has shaped the appellation and carved out a very steep incline right inside it
The soil is shallow and composed mostly of massive granites rich in potassium, iron, and magnesium It also enjoys a microclimate created by a combination of sun and mistral wind.

⛰️Terroir: located in the heart of the village at the foot of the hillside, facing due east at the place called “La Brunelle”, at an altitude of 260 m. Clay-limestone soil with a tendency towards iron, about 50 cm deep, stony and draining.

🍷Tasting Notes:
Nose of black fruits, dominant blackcurrant, evolving towards animal and musky notes. Austere, structured mouth, on a long and tannic finish.

🍴Food and wine pairing:
Tasty and virile dishes (roast lamb, prime rib, duck breast), with a preference for game as it ages. Cow‘s milk cheeses and cheeses with character.

Domaine Bruno Clair Morey-Saint-Denis “En la Rue de Vergy” 2021 🇫🇷🍷

Tasting Notes:
A mixture of red/black fruit, oak aromas and subtle spices on the nose, touches of singed earth and sous-bois developing with time. The palate is very harmonious and smooth with beautifully integrated oak. Sumptuous dark cherry fruit mixed with orange zest and blueberry, very silky towards the long and elegant finish.

GRAPE: 100% Pinot Noir

The Domain’s Short Story:
Morey-Saint-Denis village-level plot En la Rue de Vergy is one of the few plots of the same name in Côte d’Or that produces red and white wines. It is located above the Grand Cru Clos de Tart. Due to the higher altitude, the wine is not as hard as Clos de Tart. The small gravel in the soil structure gives it more mineral and elegant aroma structure.

Since 2014, Bruno Clair’s eldest son Edouard Clair has taken over most of the winemaking work, using more grape stems to improve the freshness and elegance of the wine. Edouard Clair has more accurately grasped the characteristics that this plot gives to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties!

This pleasant and surprising wine comes from vines over 60 years old. The soft aroma is delicate, with hints of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruits (cherry, redcurrant), humus, and undergrowth. When young, this wine offers the fresh taste of grapes. As it ages, it develops flavors of truffle, leather, and spices, highlighting its strong structure. Beaune wines are generous and have great aroma and texture, making them perfect for rich meats like game, roast, or braised dishes.
