Last week was a week of wreath making and what a pleasure it was to be creative! First was a night with Boroughbridge Young Farmers and what a fab bunch they were and all went home with a gorgeous wreath, then we had two sessions in Marton Village Hall which as always was lovely and I’ve enjoyed receiving the photos of wreaths on people’s doors. Finally we had a staff night, enjoying a takeaway and then being creative!

When Tuesday night is steak night! The boys have had a busy day so I thought I would treat them being half term as well! Fillet of beef, I sealed it in a hot pan with plenty of butter well seasoned with salt and pepper and then roasted at 200oC for 25 minutes, allowed to rest and then served with the traditional trimmings, it went down a treat! This was from the fabulous T S Hartley butchers who we use to supply all our meat and cut and butcher our own produce.

URGENT ALLERGEN ADVICE FOR PEANUT ALLERGY

After the announcement by the Food Standards Agency last week that there has been a potential contamination with peanuts in mustard we have been notified by our suppliers that some products that we sell contain MUSTARD that has originated in these factories.

We have removed all the lines that we have been notified about from sale but I would like to make you aware that if you have purchased anything from us in the last 6 months that is labelled as containing “MUSTARD, MUSTARD SEEDS, MUSTARD POWDER OR MUSTARD FLOUR” you must treat this as potentially also containing PEANUT.

This is a major investigation by the FSA and at present over 60 product recalls have been announced in the UK so if you have a friend/relative with a peanut allergy please be extra vigilant and take care when preparing/buying foods.

As the seasons change so does the fabulous vegetables available to us, this weekend we have heritage beetroot, bunch beetroot, kale, cabbage and leeks.

Most people will know I’m a big advocate of a good family Sunday dinner and I love roasting beetroot to go along side. Scrub your beets to remove any soil and then steam until just turning soft. Add to a roasting tin with a good drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper and roast for 40 minutes!

Bank holiday treat…for Sunday Dinner dessert last night I did a meringue pavlova, topped with nectarines baked for about 10 minutes with Demerara sugar until they went slightly caramelised (this is a great way of using up peaches or nectarines that are slightly past their best) strawberries and raspberries - delicious 😋
