We are delighted to announce the introduction of Praveen Kumar to Barton Stacey Stores. A remarkable choice of 17 delicious Indian main course meals now available from our freezer, including chicken, lamb, beef, vegetable and fish dishes. Yep, I know Wednesday is not normally a 'fresh bread day' but our kindly local bakery has made a special trip to us with sourdough and multi seed loaves to make up for us being closed yesterday morning. Baked overnight, our baker's bread is wildly popular so come down soon!

While there's work still being done in the back of the shop, the new door and window has almost been finished. We will therefore be open tomorrow, though our full range may not be available when you call in.

Lyburn Farm now delivers a selection of their cheeses directly to Barton Stacey Stores.

In our deli chiller you will find four artisan cheeses, which, while 'pressed', are not that close to Cheddar cheese, being, in general, softer and more continental types of cheese.

Lyburn Gold - Ripened for about 8- 12 weeks with a creamy smooth texture, a little like Gouda.

Lyburn Garlic & Nettle - Well balanced with a hint of garlic and onion, paprika, ginger, and horseradish.

Wi******er - Lyburn, aged on to 8-9 months for a harder cheese with a nuttier flavour.

Lightly Oak Smoked - A favourite at Hampshire Farmers Markets. During the maturation process this Lyburn's rind goes a glorious caramel colour.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Please Read

The shop will close at about 9am on Monday 11th November for the installation of our new shopfront. We hope to reopen by Tuesday evening but the project may run on into Wednesday.

On Monday, please come and pick up your shopping between 7.30am and 9am. If you would like us to deliver your paper or milk (or anything else) on Monday and Tuesday (and Wednesday if necessary) please let us know - delivery would take place during our normal paper round between 6.30am and 9.30am. We would be very happy to delivery to you free of charge on this occasion.

Medications will not be delivered to us by Gratton Surgery on Monday; neither will prescriptions be collected. We have asked Gratton to keep your meds at the dispensary until Wednesday. There will be no Dry Cleaning collection next week.

The Post Office counter will be closed during the same times as the shop. However, if you can’t get to another Post Office during the day, you will be able to use our Mobile Post Office for stamps, parcels, bill payments and banking from about 5.15pm each day (look for the big red van outside the shop). Royal Mail collections will continue from the post box as normal. If Royal Mail bring us a Local Collect item for you we will try to accept it but you may not be able to collect it from us until we officially reopen.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience our building work causes.

BUILDING WORK TO RECOMMENCE

Most of you will know the journey we went on a few years ago, when our builder ran off with a lot of our money without finishing the job...Then, because the roof was not completed, the rain poured in all winter, ruining the new flooring and ceiling, and adding many more thousands to the overall cost.

We were thrilled how the village pulled together in our support. You even raised over £6,000 towards our costs, for which we will always be grateful.

Some of the more urgent work was done the following year but a lot was left to do. Now we're ready to get things underway again.

Starting this week, our new builder will be finishing off the extension roof and putting up guttering on the extension, installing a soakaway, correcting some botched drainage work, rendering walls, fixing the ceiling, and internal walls, improving the electrics, adding various security measures, and creating an upstairs office out of a space that had been left a building site.

We will finally be getting our new shopfront (made of timber, as requested by TVBC Planning due to us being in a conservation area) with a good strong door to replace the one damaged by burglars in February - in a couple of weeks time we will need to close the shop for two or three days to allow this to happen; we’ll confirm the details soon.

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to replace the damaged flooring at the moment, as that would be a big additional expense that we can't afford right now. With your continued support we will hopefully get this done in another year or so.

Here we go… Our Hampshire butcher's Beef Mince, Bacon, Black Pudding, Chicken Breasts and Burgers are now in. Yummy Sausages today include Lamb and Mint, ‘Old Charlie’ and ‘Traditional’ Pork and Beef & Guinness - we can't recommend them highly enough.

Also available, trays of ready to bake, smokey Louisiana BBQ Ribs.

Don't forget, we always stock delicious slices of Gammon Ham from Basingstoke and larger packs of Houghton Ham from Devizes.

You love our baker's bread, arriving fresh every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. Well, some of you have spotted that we have begun trialling a new range of fresh meats.

Also arriving on Tues, Thurs and Sat., direct from Smiths Family Butchers in Eastleigh, are four kinds of Bacon, various varieties of Sausage (including Traditional and their signature Old Charlie), big juicy Breasts of Chicken, proper meaty Hamburgers, and lean Minced Beef - all in price-marked packs. And we could be selling a whole lot more, offering a mini Butcher's Shop experience here in Barton Stacey.

We would love to hear your feedback to know what you would like to have in store, as well as your ongoing support because we couldn’t afford to be left with much unsold stock.

We’ll be opening most days over Christmas and New Year, albeit with some slightly different opening hours (see below) - you’ll even be able to call in for a time on Boxing Day for your newspapers, and essential groceries; and for extra drinks and biscuits for your guests.
