Delighted that the new 2023 vintage of our Sussex Rosé is now available from our website and many independent retailers just in time for English Wine Week!
Our classic provencal-style dry rosé is elegant, refreshing and very moreish.
It is also our first wine to proudly display the ‘Sustainable Wines of Great Britain’ logo on the label. This follows on from our vineyard and winery receiving certification earlier this year in recognition of our sustainable practices. Join us to celebrate Father's Day this Sunday with a glass of wine and some delicious gourmet toasted sandwiches and crepes supplied by food van 'pop-up', Bon Vivant. Serving from outside our Tasting Room from 11am to 3pm. Enjoy an afternoon at the vineyard and to treat Dad we’ll be offering all Dads a complimentary glass of our Multi-Vintage sparkling wine with any bottle of wine purchased to drink here or take home.

After a long and somewhat wet winter our Tasting Room and vineyard reopens for the summer season this weekend!

Here is a list of some of the things we have on over the coming months:

Our popular Vineyard Tour with Wine & Cheese Tasting is back. Available every Saturday and Sunday. Start times: 11am or 3pm. Price: £26.50pp

Wine Tasting Under the Tipi. Available most Saturdays and Sundays. Start time: 2.30pm, Price: £18.50pp. An informal guided tasting through 5 of our award-winning wines (hopefully under the Tipi if the weather is kind or inside if not!)

✨ NEW FOR 2024 - Twilight Tour & Tasting. Available selected Wednesdays and Fridays. Start time: 5pm. Cost: £22pp and includes a complimentary glass of wine and a walk around the vineyard. A perfect way to end the day.

Vineyard Picnic for Two. Available most weekends. Our picnics include high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients to showcase the wonderful food Sussex has to offer packed ready to go in a wicker hamper. Cost: £45 per picnic for two (excludes wine).

✨ NEW FOR 2024 - Bon Vivant Sundays. Starting this Sunday 5th May from 11am to 3pm Bon Vivant will be here serving their menu of gourmet toasted sourdough sandwiches and sweet & savoury crepes. Do drop in and support this local business.

Just as the buds burst on the vines the blanket of wildflowers around the vineyard - most notably dandelions and daisies - spring into life. Despite the rain, the plants believe Spring is here! We will make sure we don’t mow until the end of May where possible to give all the local insects and bees a good early food source. We look forward to welcoming the Bee Hives to their summer spot by our lake very soon.

Today is National Bacchus Day, a day to celebrate everything about this unique cool climate grape variety. There is much to be said about Bacchus starting with its namesake the Roman God of wine and pleasure. His story is as complex as the grapes lineage and its distinctive aromas and flavour profile.

This German bred grape was created by viticulturist Peter Morio in 1933.
Morio took Grüner Silvaner (a grape species mainly grown in Alsace) and crossed it with Riesling. He then took the resulting vine and crossed it with Müller-Thurgau to create Bacchus.

We have been producing Bacchus since 2013 and won The WineGB "Wine of the Year" Award with our 2014 vintage. We love our Bacchus because it delivers a distinctive wine, characterised by its water-white paleness, a crisp refreshing mouthfeel and intriguing aromatic complexity with a subtle elegance.

It is perfect to sip on it's own or to accompany a variety of dishes ranging from goats cheese to seafood and stronger flavoured salads such as Caesar or rocket.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, we would like to take a moment recognise our founder and manager Alison Nightingale and to raise a glass to all the women in wine, the pioneering females making their mark in this ever evolving industry.

After a successful career in marketing for prominent international corporations, Alison made a pivotal decision to pursue her passion in wine.

Her hands-on approach in establishing the vineyard, overseeing the winery operations, and creating a tasting room is honourable and doing this all while raising her three daughters, two dogs, four pygmy goats, four sheep, six chickens and a cat is remarkable. Alison has shown that woman really can do it all!

If you visit Brighton Pier between November and March and your likely to witness starlings dancing in the sky.

Our Bacchus Frizzante features a beautiful label showing this murmuration of starlings over the iconic West Pier in Brighton. Starling numbers in the UK have been on the decline so we have partnered with the RSPB to help them protect and preserve threatened bird species, including starling. As part of this initiative, we donate 20p from every bottle sold of our Bacchus Frizzante.

We are so lucky to have an abundance of great Pubs in Sussex! There is nothing better in Winter than a brisk country walk followed by Sunday lunch in a warm cosy pub. One of our favourites is The Cat Inn located in the picturesque village of West Hoathly.

They support local producers and provide a good list of English wines including our Sandstone Ridge. Described by Andrew from The Cat Inn as “A delicious and fresh Chardonnay Ortega blend from a wonderful small vineyard and winemaker in Sussex”

On a day when we hear that, for the first time, the global average annual temperature has exceeded 1.5% (the theoretical ‘save’ threshold) and when Labour has abandoned its spending commitment to green projects, I’m very pleased to announce that at Albourne we are sticking with our sustainability mission and keeping to our commitment to produce Carbon Neutral or even better Carbon Negative wines.

In January we received Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) Certification for both our winery and vineyard after completing our first audit. The audit and certification programme, established and run by WineGB, ensures that there is a rigorous and independently audited process for UK vineyards and wineries to make justifiable ‘sustainability’ claims.

Over the last few weeks I've been working through paperwork and reviewing our plans in preparation for our first Sustainable Wines of Great Britain certification audit next week. I'm quietly pleased with the progress we've made over the years towards becoming a truly sustainable business - from 100% renewable energy sourcing every year since 2011 when our solar panels were installed to reducing our packaging waste, improving our recycling rates and planting trees. There is always more to be done however and as opens today we put our voice behind all those others imploring our global leaders to do that right thing and actually make something happen to help control global warming. Fingers crossed.
