LONG CHRISTMAS POST BUT PLEASE READ TO THE END.

Reaching ‘peak’ Christmas can be stressful. And for some it can be very stressful. This year we’re supporting local charity The Red Bench Project along with local band The Wolcott Band who have teamed up with the Red Bench Project too. Many of you will know of The Wolcott Band - winners of the National Entertainment Award!!

We’re selling the Red Bench Project (created by the Wolcott Band) wrist bands for £1.50 in support. It’s a VERY small donation that could make a HUGE difference to someone on the edge. When you’re next in just ask for one.

The Red Bench Project is a group of people who are sick of seeing people we love taking their own lives, or even being that person who feels like they have nothing to live for.
Now there's no easy solution, sadly. But WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Here’s how to in Boldon.

The aim is to have Red Benches placed in hot-spots where people may go to contemplate ending it all. These Red Benches can act like a silent cry for help. The hope is that people that feel so low, might use these benches to take a moment to think, to calm down and try and get their heads together. But if YOU see someone sitting alone at a Red Bench, maybe you could go sit next to them, say hello, see if they are ok. That little action can really make a big difference.

Each Red Bench features a plaque, one on the front and one on the back with the number for The Samaritans and a QR code if you’re feeling lost and need help, you might just take a look on the website, because the aim is to be able to point you in the right direction for help, be that someone to talk to then and there like the Samaritans or maybe even just to get help with what is causing you all of the distress, be it abuse, debt, PTSD, depression, addiction, health reasons, money troubles, sadly the list goes on and on, but the aim is to help point you in the right direction.

The first Red Bench can be found on the promenade at South Shields beach, in between the amphitheatre and the Sanddancer pub - there are now benches located at the following locations...
Marsden, near the Marsden Grotto car park.
The Mill Dam, South Shields, near the Customs House.
Hebburn Marina.
Thurston Outdoor Education Centre, Coniston, Lake District.
With your help there can be more on the way.

**we are still taking donations of money or food and toiletries for the food bank**

Have you reached your Christmas peak yet?We put up the shop decorations inside and out last week and we can report from a pole (not the North) of our customers that it’s 50/50. Where do you stand did it all start too soon or is now about right ?

Local businesses - beware. Someone in the area is passing off fake £20 notes. Tell your staff to look out. We’ve impounded £80 worth this week.

The fakes are King Charles £20 notes. The hologram doesn’t have the £20 on it. There are no dimples on the side of the note. The numbers are all the same. The colouring is off and the reverse portrait blurry. They are also slightly smaller too. BUT they are not detected by note pens as fake. So be careful.

Once again thanks to the volunteers who turned out to put up the poppies on a very wet Friday evening and earlier in the afternoon in West Boldon. Thanks also to the people who donated money to help to fund the replenishment of the poppies and add extra numbers to them.
You all help to preserve the sense of community that everyone else talks about. Thank you. We hope you all appreciate seeing them this year.

The ‘Poppies Platoon’ will be putting up the poppies in West Boldon on Friday 1 November. Meeting at 6.00 pm.
Some of our platoon are engaged elsewhere this year so we’re a bit depleted in numbers. If you’re able to and would like to come along and help you just need some scissors and a small step*. With enough of us to do it - it should only take about an hour. Minus any drinks at the start and finish. I’ll post more about our meeting point - it’s no surprise it’s going to be in a pub in West Boldon really is it 😂😂😂

It’s coming up to Remembrance Sunday and this year it will be the 10 November.
We need to get our poppies up around the village and this year we’ve ordered more. So a couple of things - we’re looking for willing volunteers to help put them up again and some pledges to help meet the cost of the new ones too. If you’re able to help let us know in the comments. We’ve been doing this now for a good few years. Let’s keep it going another year with your help 🙏

Colder darker mornings. From our store to your door - still delivering newspapers around The Cotswolds, Boldon Colliery, West Boldon and East Boldon. Not much has changed since we first published this video other than we do take a couple of weeks off each year so were not quite 365 days of the year but we can take the strain for most of it. Call or message for more details.

Personal post, sorry.

My son Luke is leaving the Royal Navy after 5 years. He is a great lad, hard working, conscientious, excellent time keeping, great work ethic.

He is looking for an apprenticeship locally in mechanical engineering. (Obviously he has a great background, submarines are complicated bits of kit!)

If you would like a CV forwarded, please let me know.

Thanks, Dave

It’ll soon be Monday and we’ll be open again. Here’s one for the future too …

Have you ever been inside the ancient church of St Nicholas West Boldon? Why not come along and explore on Saturday the 7th of September as part as the Heritage Open Days.

The building will be open from 10am until 4pm with friendly folks on hand to tell you a little of the fascinating history of the place. You could have a go at ringing the bells, light a candle for a loved one, try our scavenger hunt, or just soak up the atmosphere in a building used for prayer and worship for centuries.

Afterwards why not drop into our newly refurbished Parish Hall a little further down the bank for refreshments and to see a display of wedding photographs from years gone by at St Nicholas.

We're pet friendly and a ramp is available for anyone with mobility issues.
