It was lovely to see so many of you at our Christmas Tasting and it was gratifying to see how well the wines were received. We always find it interesting afterwards to see which wines sold well and the table hosts are always keen to see those results too!
The best selling wine was Pattingham Nurton Brook Solaris White from Staffordshire! This is an easy drinking, crisp white which is perfect for everyday drinking and it is the first time that an English wine has been the best-seller at one of our tastings. Two of the fizz on taste were also hugely popular. These were Arthur Metz “1904” Crémant d’Alsace from France and Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut from Italy. The top three reds were Vallone Versante Primitivo which is a well-priced, smooth red, ideal for everyday drinking with winter fayre. Marques de Pluma Reserva from Ribera del Duero was another strong-seller which we can fully understand as it is the red that it is drunk Chez Poole on Christmas Day with our bronze turkey! Cairanne La Côte Sauvage from Domaine Boutinot is always popular and last Thursday was no exception. We drink Cairanne with many beef or game dishes.Three popular whites included Creation Viognier from South Africa. This is new to our portfolio and understandably the wines from Creation have something of a cult following in the UK and it is easy to see why. Pazo Rosqueira Albariño from Spain and Saraja Tarra Noa Vermentino di Gallura from Sardinia were also ordered well, both wines being versatile and delicious with fish.
