Ewelme Village Store

Ewelme Village Store Ewelme Village Store is a not-for-profit community initiative, run and operated by a paid managers and local volunteers.

In November 2007 a survey of approximately half the households in Ewelme was conducted as part of the Parish Council’s Village Plan initiative. Of the 200 households in the village surveyed, over 95% of respondents rated the existence of a village shop as very high and pledged both financial and/or voluntary help. At the same time as the need was identified, the old shop premises in the Old Post O

ffice were purchased by Lord & Lady Jay who pledged support to the formation of a village shop by renovating the premises and offering them to the village for a nominal rent per annum. Consequently the community formed the Ewelme Village Store Association and applied through VIRSA to the FSA to become an Industrial and Provident Society for the Benefit of the Community (IPS BenCom). As such any surplus made by the shop is either re-invested in the shop or the local community. The shop opened early in May 2009, with plans to develop a sustainable, self financing business. We are proud to offer a wide selection of products, covering basic supplies to special treats and everything in between. We are especially proud of our homemade baked goods (made in store), including a delicious array of homemade cakes, fresh soups and our amazing cheese scones! We also have a superb selection of frozen goods from Cook (award winning individually portioned meals) and Field Fare (delicious loose frozen food - it's like pic 'n' mix for the freezer!). We have an extensive range of excellent greetings cards with something for all occasions and lots of different styles - something for everyone! Finally, our tea room: we offer a range of homemade rolls, soups and cakes, and a great selection of hot/cold drinks. We love welcoming cyclists (we have a bicycle pump at the shop and will refill water bottles for free), walkers and anyone else who fancies a delicious bite to eat. We offer eat in with a lovely view over the pond, or takeaway. We look forward to seeing you in the shop soon!

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„Have you seen our lovely Christmas tree? πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

This year, our Christmas tree has been sponsored on behalf of Ewelme Village Preschool who are raising funds to completely renovate their outdoor garden. 😊

The garden at the preschool provides essential space for children to be able to get outdoors and active on a daily basis.
However, as the existing garden is so well-loved and weathered, the time has come to update it in order to keep it safe for use by the children. We are therefore reaching out to our wonderful local community to ask if you would like to support us in whatever way you can in achieving this goal.

Thank you in advance for your support - it means so much to us, and of course the children, who will get to benefit from an exciting, newly refurbished garden!

We're sure you'll agree that this is an important project for our lovely village preschoo, so if you'd like to contribute, please click here:

They've landed! 🀩

Our Christmas catalogues are here!

We're in the process of delivering them to houses in the village and there are a few copies to browse in the shop while you grab a hot drink.

Unfortunately, they've proved rather popular so we are running a little short.

If you prefer a digital version or don't get a copy through your letterbox, click this link to go to our blog and download a PDF version to peruse at your leisure!

Alternatively, click on the QR code below and that should take you straight there.

We'd like to say a huge thanks to the small (but mighty!) team of volunteers who put the catalogue together this year - a great job!

We hope you like what we've got in store this year and look forward to seeing you in the shop for your Christmas goodies soon!

We've got a sponsorshop opportunity for a local business 🀩

We have a Christmas tree outside the shop every year, and we've love to see if there's anyone out there who'd like to sponsor our tree this year? πŸŽ„

In exchange we will promote your business on our social media pages, including links to websites etc.

If you're interested in helping the shop feel really festive this year, please email:
[email protected] or phone 01491 834467, or you can DM us here!

We can't wait to hear from you!

It's here! 🀩

Our 2025 calendar has landed!

We'd like to thank our lovely volunteers for putting this together and everyone who contributed photographs.

It's full of beautiful images from Ewelme and would look fab on any wall.

Great if you're a local and love the area, and also make great gifts for those further afield.

They fit in an A4 envelope to easy to post too.

Brand new for this year and totally unique to Ewelme Village Store! πŸ₯³

We've produced our own colouring book, full of hand drawn images, drawn by members of our very own team, including some lovely local images.

We're really proud of it.

We've also got coloured pencils to go with it.

We think they make a brilliant Christmas present for the colouring fan in your world (and remember it's not just the kids who get to do colouring in - great for mindfulness for adults too).

We think these will be super popular so make sure you get yours soon!

Have you noticed how sparkly and twinkly the shop is looking?

Our lovely Christmas stock has started to appear in the shop for you to browse and buy, our 2025 calendar has been printed and delivered and our catalogue is having final touches before it appears in your letterboxes!

We're starting to get excited now!

Have you recently moved to the village?

Did you know that the shop is a community shop, owned by residents?
Are you a shareholder in the shop?

It's the easiest way to support us because all you have to do is fill out a very short form!

Shares are Β£10 and can be purchased in the shop, or you can request a form via email and transfer the money online.

Email [email protected] for more information.

We've just issued 2 new shares, and that brings us tantalisingly close to 400 members!

We're at 398 - will you be the one to take us over the 400 mark?

Are you a fan of Christina Hardyment?

Her third book in the Alyce Chaucer series luaches this month and Christina will be at the shop this Saturday to sign copies!

You can come and buy one for yourself, or perhaps for a Christmas present?

Christina will be with us from 3.30pm until 5pm.

You could treat yourself to a hot drink and snack at the same time!

Oops! 🫒

We've been a little quiet here recently. We're busy working behind the scenes on various things, including *ssshhh* 🀫 Christmas! πŸ™ƒ

We've also been busy re-stocking the shop over the past week or so, and we've got lots of lovely goodies as well as our usual range of those everyday essentials.

Watch until the end for a peek of a brand new line we've got in - something yummy for these autumnal evenings! πŸ˜ƒ
