Our Foxes are very sad that Taste Cumbria Cockermouth has been cancelled. We worked extra hard during the last few weeks to stock up and make lovely Christmas gifts to bring up to the market as requested by so many of you during the September show.

But, we have come up with a solution…

😞💔 UPDATE: TASTE CUMBRIA CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED THIS WEEKEND. 😞💔
Regretfully, the decision has been made to cancel the Taste Cumbria Christmas food festival in Cockermouth this weekend.
This is due to a forecast of very high gusts of wind as Storm Darragh is predicted to hit Cumbria hard on Saturday and Sunday. The Met Office has advised that there will be 60 - 70mph gusts in the area from Friday through to Sunday morning. Although Sunday is a little calmer, the wind gusts are still not at a satisfactory level to be able to put gazebos up and safely invite traders and visitors to Cockermouth.
The Supper Club due to take place tonight, Thursday, and the Taste Cumbria Comedy Night planned for Saturday night will still go ahead.
Taste Cumbria event manager Ellie Jones, of Cumberland Council, said: “We are so disappointed that the weekend’s weather forecast has forced us to make this decision.
“However, we have to consider our amazing traders and the town’s businesses who create thousands of products ahead of the event. We can’t see their food, time and money wasted when all the indications are that this is going to be a big storm.
“As event organisers, Cumberland Council's top priority is the health, safety and welfare of our visitors, staff and traders. We’re used to rain in Cumbria, but unfortunately windy conditions can be highly dangerous where gazebos and marquees are concerned.
“Please don’t forget the wealth of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants in Cockermouth. Please pop in and support them, and the rest of the county’s great businesses. Thank you for your understanding – please visit Cockermouth, shop local and have a great Christmas.”

We are back again for Taste Cumbria Christmas 🎄

It's 15 years tonight since huge floods devastated Cockermouth - and that led to your fabulous Taste Cumbria festivals being created to keep this wonderful town on the map. Since then, the events have brought many millions of pounds into the local economy, and we've expanded to bring food and drink brilliance, and even more community benefits, to other Cumbrian towns too. Tonight we remember PC Bill Barker, who lost his life while guiding others to safety, and the incredible emergency services and volunteers who worked so hard during that night and the weeks and months that followed. To our visitors... we thank you for supporting Taste Cumbria - please continue to in any way you can.

PRODUCTION

The key to the quality of this wine is in the decision on when flavours are optimal for harvest. We look
for ripe cassis flavours, with fine tannins and mature brown seeds which will eventually help build
structure in the wine. Fruit commences its journey to wine through fermentation on skins in a range of small stainless steel fermenters to gently extract the colour and fruit flavours until all of the sugar is consumed and some parcels are left to gain extra complexity. Following pressing and racking, French oak then plays its part in adding an extra dimension to the fruit, during which the wine clarifies slowly to allow the remaining yeast to aid in building palate structure.

TASTING NOTE

Notes of bright fruit characters of dark cherry, ripe cassis, and eucalyptus. Finishing with fine smooth tannins, showing the true joy of Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra. Fresh and fruit driven, with juicy fruit upfront leading to gentle tannins on the mid palate with a long and flavoursome finish.
