It is with a heavy heart I have decided to close Tayinloan Stores until further notice.
It has been quite a journey since opening in April this year. The shop has been trading well and it is obvious that it is needed by the village. A place to shop and also have a natter. Some say it is the hub of the village.
It has been fun to work in and a joy to serve the customers. However, all this has been overshadowed by continual land disputes and serious harassment. I’ve been spat on, threatened with my life, attempts have been made to break up my marriage by an anonymous letter posted to my wife accusing me of infidelity and a similar Facebook post. Numerous anonymous complaints have been made to the Council, Building Control Department, Licensing Department, Environmental Health, Police, etc. I’ve been accused of running a late night drinking den and a brothel, selling alcohol, drugs, and ci******es to local children until late at night, which really upsets me as I have children of my own. I know all the local kids and their parents and would certainly not even consider bending the rules or encourage under age drinking or smoking. Not once have there been attempts by youths to buy drink or to***co since we opened. As far as I’m concerned, the kids in this village are all very well mannered and well behaved.
What really gets my goat is that Suzie has been targeted too and I think I would have given up the shop weeks ago if it wasn’t for her support.
On Thursday I said enough’s enough, I am not subjecting myself or my family to this intimidation any longer. It was a difficult decision but this way I leave with my integrity intact. Only if the slander and harassment are dealt with appropriately and stopped would I consider reopening.
I wish to thank all my customers, suppliers, friends, Suzie and my family for all their support.

: Have a good standard of butchery & knife skills

: Work as a team
