It's World Chardonnay Day and we've selected an ejm wine customer favourite: Shadow Point Chardonnay.

On the nose, there is plenty of bright ripe fruit over toasted hazelnut aromas. The palate has a stone fruit, creamy oak richness, and freshness on the finish. This style offers an appealing, plumply oaked version of new world Chardonnay, and a lot of pleasure for people who want a richer style.

The Petali Assyrtiko Diamantakis 2022 from Crete is an ideal match for halloumi dishes.

Pale yellow in colour with fresh citrus, floral aromas and Cretan herbs such as thyme and oregano.

Three months lees ageing provides more depth and complexity to the texture.

We’re offering 4-week courses on production, grape varieties, aroma and taste. Open to a small number of 6 people, each week is 2 hours long and looks at wines around the world with tasting included.

Our next course will run on the following dates:

Tuesday 28th May - an introduction to wines, production, and tasting.

Tuesday 4th June - begin our world tour with a visit to the old school northern hemisphere wine-making countries.

Tuesday 11th June and Tuesday 18th June - continue to the southern hemisphere and the Americas.

This is a beautifully fresh wine to enjoy during the summer months.

The Lisa Blanc was named after Chateau La Coste's previous owner's daughter. Made from a mix of Grenache Blanc, Cairette, Sauvignon Blanc and Vermentino grapes grown around the area by farmers that Chateau La Coste have worked with for over 15 years.

Notes of lime, pear, white peach, nectarine and a mouthwatering streak of minerality run throughout. Ideal with a host of Mediterranean dishes – tomato mozzarella, roasted vegetables, ratatouille, fish and goats cheese.

We've selected a real beauty for

It’s thought the Romans took Viognier to the Rhône 1700 years ago yet incredibly, as recently as the 1980’s, there were thought to be only 32 ha planted in the entire world. Now, Viognier, with its fullbodied richness and gentle acidity is an international superstar again. Fred Cline specialises in growing Rhône cultivars and giving them a modern twist whilst maintaining their original character.

Happy St George's Day!

We're celebrating with a bottle of the Rathfinny Estate 2019 Classic Cuvée.

This is Rathfinny' ‘house-style’ English Sparkling Wine, made in the Traditional Method from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes grown and hand-harvested on the Rathfinny Wine Estate, which is family owned.

Sussex wines have been granted protected status similar to Melton Mowbray pork pies, Stilton cheese and Cornish pasties.

The Sandeman Porto Fine White is a new addition to the ejm wine shelves.

This is a delicious Port made from selected white grape varieties grown in the Northern Portugal's rugged Douro valley.

Carefully made from the selected varieties, this White Port is dry yet maintains part of its natural sweetness, making it a perfect aperitif when served chilled on its own, with ice or as a long drink with a Splash of tonic water and a slice of lemon.

Kicking off the start of the rosé season with one of the world's most popular Provence rosés, Whispering Angel.

Made from Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino) grapes, its taste profile is full and lush while being bone dry with a smooth finish. A blend of the best free run juices and press juices, fermented and aged in stainless steel with temperature control.

Whispering Angel rosé has fresh red berry fruit characteristics with floral notes. Ripe and fleshy feel on the palate.

Marco Abella Loidana Priorat 2020

Loidana is the perfect starter wine for those wishing to learn more about the complexity of wines from Spain’s Priorat region. It offers intense fruit aromas; strawberry, cherry, raspberry and black cherry with hints of flowers, cedar and spice. Smooth and velvety on the palate from it’s 12 month spell ageing in oak barrels, which makes it a good match with poultry and pasta dishes.

With only a week to go until Easter Sunday, we've highlighted our top roast lamb, fish and vegetarian wine pairings for the big day:

Roast lamb - Bardos Romantica 2020 from the Ribera del Duero in Spain. A full bodied, beautifully balanced Tempranillo wine. Ripe dark fruit aromas, smooth to taste with dark fruit jam flavours coupled with interesting leather and to***co notes. Smooth and elegant from 14 months ageing in old French oak barrels.

Fish - Esk Valley Albarino 2021 from Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. This wine reveals classic Albarino notes of lime, peach and an assortment of tropical fruits. It is full and rich with mouthwatering acidity providing length and delicousness with the palate weight enhanced by ageing on yeast lees.

Vegetarian - Domaine de Vedilhan Serica 2022 from Moussan in France. 'Serica' is the Latin name for silk, evoking the luxurious texture of this Viognier. Attractive nose of orange peel, hints of mandarin too. On the palate the oak gives the wine depth and richness but its not oaky. Orange and grapey notes with some musky characters, spice and some freshness on the long finish. This wine is also suitable for vegans.

What a brilliant tasting we had on Friday night! This lovely lot generally preferred French wines so we tasted a selection from the shop, including Sancerre, Pomerol and Beaujolais.

A vibrant summer sipper from the Western Cape. Although today doesn’t feel much like summer, we have no doubt that afternoons sitting in the garden enjoying a bottle of crisp white are upon us. The Aquiline Sauvignon Blanc has zesty, citrus fruit characters balanced by green apple acidity. Available in the ejm wine shop for £10.95

Wine of the month for May: Chateau Pinerai Malbec 2021, £15.85. 85% Malbec, 15% Merlot. Produced in the Cahors region in the South of France, by two sisters who have taken over the domaine which has been producing since 1863. Intense cherry fruit, blackcurrant and lots of spicy oak. A perfect BBQ wine!

For those of you who enjoy soft, fruity reds, these are a few you’re bound to love. We also have a new addition - the S.C. Palmela Serra Mae 2020. This wine has aromas of concentrated black cherry and bramble fruits, some green herb, rustic spice and black olives, and is made from 100% Castelão. The palate has lucious ripe black fruits, spicy smokey with a fresh and juicy texture from start to finish. Its fresh acidity is a perfect match for slow-roast lamb, toad in the hole or Spanish tapanade.
