BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU IS MAKING A COMEBACK… and we’re here for it! Tomorrow is the BIG DAY — if you know, you know — we’ve got our hands on ’s 2024 nouveau, and it’s set to be a chic and juicy little number. We’ve taken a fair few orders for when the bottles can legally be sold tomorrow (who doesn’t love wine bound in regulations 🤪) but might have a few leftover, if you’re quick!

We pinched a very cool (and apt) framed print from our cool midcentury mad neighbours too — available to purchase — which would look fab in any groovy, gamay lover’s home!

at Vineyards, a very special tasting!
We’ve always been proud to surprise people with the wines we bring to our little corner of Sherborne. We get some of the world’s best winemakers come to us to host from our ‘humble abode’ in Old Yarn Mills, Sherborne’s boozy artisan quarter, and this time is no different. We’re absolutely thrilled to be adding Penfolds– one of the world’s most iconic wine producers – to our portfolio and to celebrate, we’re hosting a special ticketed tasting on 20th November, where you can sample 9 of their finest (and rather epic) wines. Now, here’s where it gets a bit personal…

Years ago, when Vineyards didn’t even exist (pre-2005), Hannah worked at Wine Rack on Cheap St. She won a national competition for selling the most Penfolds Grange in the UK (RRP £550 ish per bottle) and took home a bottle of Grange as her prize – she still has it to this day, pictured above! And now, after years of running our own independent shop, it feels like a real full circle moment to be stocking Penfolds ourselves.

Just wow. I know we sound like a broken record but honestly, this finalist announcement totally took us by surprise. We didn’t think we’d be shortlisted this year. We make it look easy, but it bloody well isn’t. You complete the encyclopaedia level entry, get mystery shopped, interviewed, share stats…

So, here it is… this year we’ve been shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Hybrid Retailer of the Year’. We’ve nailed the retail space and now we’re being recognised for the ‘on trade’ ‘drink in’ experience that we started back in 2018 and has just grown and grown to what it is today… a proper ‘Weekend Club’ and a great way to explore great indie drinks all week round in a welcoming space.

Come what may, this has blown our minds. Bravo Team Vineyards… it’s the team that make the magic!

They say don’t met your heroes but when it comes to and it couldn’t be further than the truth. We were invited by good friends to a private gathering last night and the band absolutely rocked the joint. We felt like Caribbean Queens, Suddenly, life had new meaning, and there were no red lights spelling danger.

Billy was gracious and offered to sign his limited release LP that we won on the raffle and have a snap with Hannah. I didn’t want to harass Billy like some sycophant fan, but it meant a lot as back in the day my dad Tony Eykel used to work with Mr Ocean at Dagenham Ford Motors.

Billy, if you Wayne and the band want to come down to deepest Dorset, we’ll be ready with rum and more than happy to host you, and get you singing on that stage we were telling you about!

I know I’ve touched on this before but one thing I find very hard is presenting and talking in front of larger groups. I can bore the pants off of anyone regarding wine one on one or in small groups. I’m not a showman I’m just me.
Just the other day I had a supplier that I hold in high regard in my shop who said ‘I could never come into your shop and talk to you about claret, champagne or loire wines as you no more than anyone I’ve met in the trade’. This got me thinking that it is sacrilege that I don’t put myself forward to host a tasting, so here it goes…
I am hosting a Bordeaux tasting at my shop for anyone that might be interested in hearing me talk about different regions, grape varieties and how clarets have changed over the years.

We’re giving a wino book shoutout to the fabulous today — who has previously won the Food & Drink Award — and simply knows how to nail of the most joyful things in life… wine and food pairings! On the sample barrel this week…
Cabernet Franc rose - simply stunning, full flavoured (it reminds me of the amazing Bordeaux rose from Chateau Pierrail) proper depth, a real rose that puts other big names to shame. Too early to say the words but it’s going on my table on the 25th December 😳
And probably one of if the our biggest selling wine of the moment. Xavier Roger Deux Grives Shiraz, honestly this takes some beating. If you like Rhone style wines then you are going to love this. Subtle spice and with really relaxed tannins, open and enjoy on it’s own in front of the fire or with some hearty foods.
