What we're drinking this week: Munay Tannat.

While the Tannat grape variety still very much flies under the radar, this is a fruit driven wine, which makes it very easy to drink. The Cafayate region of Argentina that Munay Tannat stems from is famous for its altitude and the intensity of the sun, which allows the grapes the chance to ripen fully and become flavoursome.

It's a young, fruity style that the wine producers themselves like to drink, with a gentleness on the palate due to the softer tannins produced by that aforementioned sunshine intensity.

If, like us, you're not a lover of turkey for Christmas dinner, then this post is for you! Instead, here's a wonderful Chardonnay that will pair beautifully with roast chicken as an alternative:

The Bogle Family Chardonnay has layers of flavour that include ripe pear, nectarine and gently toasted oak, the latter of which adds a spicy complexity to it. This makes it perfect to pair with roasted meats, such as chicken.

Shenfield Wine Co. cigar of the week: Plasencia Cosecha 149 La Vega Robusto Cigar.

Plasencia's goal is to use the best leaves of aged to***co exclusively in their ci**rs. This certainly comes across in Cosecha 149: Consecha means harvest, and these ci**rs are from the family's 149th harvest in 2014.

Coupled with the fact that the ci**rs are hand rolled with quality and care, you can taste the skill that has gone into these ci**rs. With notes of black pepper and cedar sitting alongside hints of coffee notes and baking spices, it's a slightly spicy cigar that is perfect for Christmas. More details below 👇

The indoor community market, organised by the Community Centre team, will still go ahead.

Our Christmas Toy Trail is in place at The Lounge Wine bar, Ravens Bakery, Kennadys, Patrick Green Ltd and Start-Smiling Dental Practice, and Trail sheets will be available from Patrick Green, or download one via www.brentwoodconnected.co.uk/christmas-competition.

Free face painting from 1-5pm will still take place at Patrick Green, and our Christmas walkabout acts will be joining us in the High Street.

Missed our recent Wines for Christmas tasting? If so, here's a little insight into a few wines that you may want gracing your festive feasts this year 👇

🍷 Veronese IGT Palazzo della Torre Allegrini: with its ruby red colour, an intense aroma of black cherry and figs, and notes of coffee and nutmeg, this wine is Christmas in a bottle! It's also a great pairing for grilled meats and roast dinner.

🍷 Chateau Tour de Capet, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru: A classic Bordeaux created primarily from Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc, this has a rich palate of black fruits and just a hint of spice. It's perfect paired with roasted lamb or beef, and also mature cheeses.

🍷Crimson Ata Rangi Pinot Noir: as the name would suggest, this is a wonderfully red-fruited wine. With a nose of rosemary and cinnamon spice, it's a perfect accompaniment for roasted meats or, alternatively, salmon.

It was a pleasure to host an exclusive Taittinger Champagne Tasting this past Friday. Led by Kevin McKee, UK Director for Champagne Taittinger in conjunction with Hatch Mansfield, it was a great evening of exquisite champagnes, culinary delights and expert insight.

Here at The Tasting Room at Shenfield Wine Co, we've been extremely lucky to have had some brilliant tastings this year. Our Wines of Burgundy tasting, hosted by Hatch Mansfield, was no exception! 🍷

All of our tastings are led by experts and specialist importers, which means that you come away from the evening with an in-depth knowledge of the wine or spirit tasted.

What a fantastic evening we had last night at our Wines for Christmas tasting! 🍷🎄

What we're drinking this week: Domaine Perraud Bourgogne Aligote.

This is a lively, fresh white wine which comes from the Aligoté grape, traditional in Burgundy. With its delicate bouquet and light flavour, it's a very versatile, very drinkable white wine.

Pairing well with shellfish or cured hams, its savoury edge gives it an interesting flavour which can also be drunk simply as an aperitif, or even mixed with crème de Cassis to make a Kir.

What we're drinking: Soave Classico.

What we’re drinking this week: Soave Classico. In the 1970s and 1980s, Soave unfortunately gained itself a reputation for producing - shall we say - not the most exciting of wines. But that’s why we’re actually excited to show you this: Soave Classico. With Soave Classico, you need to put aside any preconceptions you may have about this wine: if you do, you’ll discover it’s a dry wine with stone fruits and a juicy finish, which is utterly delicious. Pair with rich Italian dishes such as seafood pasta and risotto, or alternatively enjoy with medium strength cheeses. Pop in store today and discover this classic for yourself!

If you’re drinking one of their fab sparking, white or rosé wines, there’s no need to shake. However, with their reds, once a small glass has been poured, you should replace the cap, turn the bottle upside down, and give it a good shake! 🍷👋 By using nitrogen, it protects the wine and minimises sulphates. But that does mean that nitrogen can suppress the flavour; giving the bottle a shake releases the flavour again! Want to find out more? What we’re drinking this week: Lyme Bay Pinot Noir 2021. 🍷 Earlier on this week we profiled one of our favourite English wine makers, Lyme Bay Winery. And today, we’re profiling one of our favourite wines from their range, the 2021 Pinot Noir. An English wine, made with the best fruit available in the UK, and aged in 32% new oak, you’ll find that this serious Pinot Noir is packed full of cherries, brambly fruit and red berries, with the subtle oak flavour complementing these. We think it’s one of the best English wines available, and if you think that we can’t make a decent red in this country, you need to try this. It’s delicious, and pairs beautifully with duck cassoulet, gammon, roast lamb or grilled aubergine. You’d never believe that Lyme Bay do not own any vineyards of their own.
