Update - May Hop Hideout
What have we been doing since we closed at the end of April…? Well to be honest Jules has been taking a little break; except for a pop-up shop, hosting a business coffee morning and attending an awards evening!
After 10 years of running Hop Hideout, then Covid-19, then having a baby, the break has been much needed!!! So thank you 🙏 Of course in the back ground we’ve also been thinking about our new space at Leah’s Yard, any thoughts or ideas let us know in the comments what you’d like to see there (always interested to hear😀) AND the fab Crowdfunder supporters ❤️ Lucy has started work on the ceramic tankards and Jules will be emailing everyone updates this and next week. We’ve also news of more pop-up shops, so watch this space 👀 Plus it’s the Hop Hideout Running Club this Saturday 11.30am starting at Saint Mars Brewery. Drop us a line if you’re coming please…⤵️
Join us this Thursday with Thornbridge Brewery for a free tutored tasting of our 10th birthday #beercollab Diamond Day 💎 Tag @hophideout and @thornbridge in your pictures on socials to win a #Thornbridge goody bag.

“I think what I’ve always hoped for, and worked towards, is being able to help make the beer scene a more approachable, welcoming, diverse space to be,” reflects Jules. “Of course, I want to get across my passion for beer and the quality being produced by independent breweries, cider producers and small wineries. But as well as that, a big part of the drive is ensuring we have a broad appeal to a wider audience. No barriers.”

It was wonderful to be back @cannonhallfarm hosting a #beertasting for This Week on the Farm.
On the show we sampled:
1. 🍺 Cloudwater Brew Co (Manchester) - Goodnight Yeast (Extra Special Bitter, 5.8%)
Fancy recreating a beautiful hand-pulled cask ale at home this summer? Obviously it’ll never replace (and it shouldn’t) the pub BUT there are times when you really want a cask beer at home and this is a great option!
It’s an extra special bitter, a classic English beer style reimagined in can. With UK barley malt and a combination of UK and US hops.
•Amber/red hued colour
•Good foam (releasing more aroma compounds) and a gently sparkling carbonation.
•Light fruit cake aroma, biscuity malt-forward backbone
•Toffee, caramel notes - perfect to pair with caramelised food from the barbecue
•Gentle tingly bitterness after taste makes for a very refreshing sip
2. 🍺 The Brewery of St Mars of the Desert (Sheffield) - Koel it! Citra (IPA, 5.4%)
After lager, IPA (India Pale Ale) is one of the most popular beer styles. All about the hops. This uses 100% British barley and US Citra hops.
Sheffield based small artisanal brewery - husband and wife team - Dann and Martha. One from US, one originally from Yorkshire. They had a brewery for 10 years out in the States and decided to relocate and start afresh in Sheffield. Interestingly they use a koelship (a big rectangular open vessel) to extract essential oils from the hops and thereby deliver as much flavour as possible into the beer.
•Golden, hazy, in colour - very appealing look with gorgeous foam
•Citrus and tropical fruit notes from the hops
•Malt base delivers sweet licks and marmalade
•Nice gentle bitterness from hops on aftertaste
•Pairs well with stronger tasting foods - try Jerk barbecue-style ribs with coleslaw
3. 🍺🍹 Wild Card Brewery x Lazy Oaf (London) - Oaf Juice (Sour Fruit Beer, 4.8%)
A collaboration between this London based brewery and a clothing label. Brew

“So here we are, a little late
Sat around a campfire in the beautiful old orchard at @rosscider one evening in the Summer of 2021, our friend and fellow cidermaker Albert suddenly proclaimed a startling fact. Michelin, the widely planted, famous cider apple, was not in fact Michelin.
😮
The apple we all knew and loved had been wrongly named ever since it was brought to these shores from France by the pomologist Henri Michelin in 1883. It turns out that this gentleman’s name had stuck and the apple’s true name was forgotten until recent DNA testing uncovered the mistake! So may we present to you, in its true form, Bisquet, the apple formerly known as Michelin!”
💜
Wassail!
