We have to say, albeit heartbreaking for us (being the ones who decided to close down), many Hillsborough residents have expressed sadness over losing a refill store in the neighbourhood - if you are interested in potentially starting up where we left off, please don't hesitate to reach out to us and the landlord.
Our reasons for closure are multiple and not down to the economy alone, so this may be an ideal opportunity for an existing business to expand to a second site, or for a new entrepreneur to take on.

Following the news we shared at the weekend regarding our upcoming closure, we're also altering our opening hours slightly for the remainder of our time in business.

As of this week, our new hours are:

WED & THU | 10:00 - 16:30
FRI & SAT | 09:00 - 15:00

Hey folks, happy Friday!

We wish we could be sharing happy news with you, but unfortunately that's not the case.

As you're all very aware, this has been an incredibly tough year for each and every one of us. The cost of living crisis has affected us all in many different ways, and small independent businesses have been forced to walk the tightrope of staying open despite the financial risk faced every day.

On top of this, I've had a period of personal health issues that have made the last year all the more challenging when combined with the stress and pressure of running a business. 

And of course helping out with the business, whilst having a full time job elsewhere and an unwell wife in myself, this has definitely not been easy for Joe either.

We have tried our hardest with the time, money and resources available to us to make the business work alongside this - however this often came at great personal losses, and eventually the time came for us to make one of the most difficult decisions we've ever faced. 

Unfortunately, we've decided to close the shop... Something we tried to avoid, and tried to put off for as long as possible since we care so much about our lovely community and the goal of sustainability.

You - our customers, friends & family - have been incredibly supportive and helped us through some of our toughest days. 

We've learned so much, met so many incredible people and experienced some of the most wonderful moments of care, compassion and kindness. 

We'll carry these moments with us for the rest of our lives, and despite the overwhelming sadness of saying goodbye to our little shop, we count ourselves lucky to have had this opportunity in the first place.

The shop will be open until all/most of our stock is sold, effectively "winding down" whilst no more new stock is bought. 

Due to this, we don't have an exact time frame - it could take a couple of weeks or it could last a month - however we'd appreciate your continued custom in our final days.

Thank you all for your love and support, we appreciate our fleeting, but meaningful, time with you ❤️

Hi folks, we've had a notification from one of our suppliers, Essential Trading, regarding a previous batch of Organic Red Split Lentils that we stocked.

The supplier's statement reads:
"Dear Customer

We are sorry to inform you that there may be a potential insect infestation in the Organic Red Split Lentils that were delivered to you from the following batch:

P195A Organic Red Split Lentils 10kg
Best Before Date: 07/05/2026
Lot: BG202322
We have checked our remaining bulk stock and have found evidence of an infestation of Adzuki Bean Weevil.

This is a product withdrawal so we ask that you inform any customer that may have purchased this batch to also dispose of the item.

Organic commodities are more likely subjected to infestation due to higher presence of insect eggs within the product. Such eggs are invisible to human eyes and despite our quality control procedure upon arrival in our facility, infestations can still occur unexpectedly. Without the use of chemicals, prevention from stock being infested is sound stock storage condition and rotation throughout the supply chain.

While the consumption of the Lentils holds no risk to human health, we ask that you dispose of the contents if you wish."

To claim a refund from us, please bring in a receipt for the purchase of our Organic Red Split Lentils made ** between 20/06/2033 and 05/08/2023 **.

Please note we have had a different batch on offer for the last week and so purchases made during this time are unaffected.

Also, we'd like to highlight the supplier's confirmation that there is no human health risk involved, and separately that we closely monitor our products at all times and did not notice evidence of any contaminant at the time we stocked the batch in question - however disposal of the product is still advised.
