January!
Thank you everyone who came to our little place in December what an end to 2024 we had too. Thanks to the DJs and thanks to all of you who came to boogie all the way into 2025!

We have a birthday to celebrate tomorrow. Alfred will be turning 12 so we’re taking time to celebrate with him while he still wants to spend time with us.

We have a couple of events on this month. 1st up is Burns Supper on Saturday 25th and we will be celebrating Chinese new year on the 29th. More info to follow.

We will be open again from Tuesday 7th at 6pm.

Also don’t forget you can hire this whole place out for your event so, if like poor Alfred you have a birthday during the darkest month of the year. Come have it in here.

Happy new year everyone. 2024 has certainly thrown it’s challenges especially with hitting 40! 🤣Seriously though. Thank...

Happy new year everyone.

2024 has certainly thrown it’s challenges especially with hitting 40! 🤣

Seriously though. Thank you for all your continued support of our backstreet boozer. Without you, we couldn’t do this.

Open this evening with bubbles and shells from 7. DJs from 9. We are FULLY BOOKED

We are then going to take our Christmas break and will reopen on Tuesday 7th January.

Our 12th and final wine.

Many of you have already had the chance to drink this but, it’s so good, we feel the need to share once again.

Villa Oeiras 7 year old Carcavelos is from vines that are over 40 years old, a small area was saved from being taken up to make way for property development in the 90s. The old estate is now under the ownership of the local authority who are investing in their heritage and revitalising the vineyard areas and this rare variety that is Carcavelos.

Fermentation is stopped by adding Portuguese brandy 77%abv and is then aged in Portuguese and French oak.

Orange peel and dried stone fruits with almond and hazelnut.

Day 11 bit later than usual but here we have Rainwater Reserva

One of the smallest producers and probably one of the youngest too. Founded in 1946 by Ricardo’s Granddad, Ricardo took over the winemaking in 1993. He is revolutionary and is the 1st to install robotic Lagares on the island, the 1st not to bottle anything with added caramel.

This rainwater reserva is medium dry with characteristics of dried fruit, candied orange and slightly nutty.

Open this evening and tomorrow 12pm-10pm for last minute purchases.

Day 9 is this beautiful Baga, a flagship red wine from produced in Bairrada with the native variety Baga a top example from the region with notes of raspberry and plum on the nose going moving to dark chocolate and vanilla.

Day 8 sees us moving on to the reds. 1st up is this Barolo from one of the iconic producers in Piedmont. This is a blend of 2 sites La Morra and Castiglione Falletto. This is a classic Barolo, robust in structure with pure cherry fruit, liquorice and truffles on the nose. The fruit really comes through on the palate alongside some well behaved tannins.

Ready to enjoy now (decant an hour before drinking).

Day 7 a not Rosé Domaine Clovallon, En Noir et Blanc

This unlikely combination of Pinot Noir and Riesling comes from vines planted by Catherine Roque back in 1989. Her daughter Alix now makes the wines. The Pinot Noir is pressed and vinified as a white wine and co-fermented with the Riesling. This wine is unfiltered and unfined.

A delicious and very fascinating wine indeed.

Day 6 a top single vineyard Pouilly-Fuissé from Eric Forest.

Eric is the 8th generation to run this small domaine in Vergisson, the most northerly of the 4 villages that make up the Appellation of Pouilly Fuissé. The 2.16 hectares of Eric’s vines were planted between 1930 and 1966. Le Crays is one of 22 new Premier Crus permitted from the 2020 vintage. The wine is fermented in barrel and aged on its lees for 10-15 months before bottling.

A note of subtle oak on the nose, ripe pear, quince, medium acidity with a medium finish. A really elegant wine.

Day 5 is this incredible expression of a field blend from the Alsace by Domaine Camille Braun. 45% Pinot Blanc, 40% Sylvaner, 5% Riesling, 5% Gewurtztraminer, 5% Chasselas. Each varietal is vinified separately under cool, temperature controlled conditions. Aged on fine lees for 5 months in stainless steel before blending.

This wine is packed full of fruit with floral note. A prime example of a wine from this absolutely stunning region.

Who are we?

Home to #mevabakery #mevafoodcommunity #mevawines

Kris & Helen acquired the freehold of the Kings Arms, Mevagissey in 2014. We live and work here with our boy Alfred. We are proud to be independent, we source all of our offerings responsibly. Our food is determined by not only the seasons but the sea and the land that surrounds us, with Kris cooking Everything that is on our daily changing menu.

2016; Meva Bakery and Meva Wines were created in The Kings. We bake Tuesday - Saturday 12 months of the year. Our bread, pasties, croissants and scones can be found in a handful of select outlets, as well as from our bar. Meva Wines has a broad selection of wines: reds, whites, rosés and champagne, ales lagers and spirits; we have the lot for you to take home and enjoy.

We hope to welcome you into our public home very soon.
