Did you know our St Albans Spiced Rose gin contains petals from wild roses? These are actually Rosa Canina to be latin about it, or Dog Rose' to you and me. They were called that because the Romans believed their root could cure the bite of a mad dog.

Hello Gin Lovers - SPRING GIN IS IN!

With the rapid onset of Spring we naturally wanted to capture some of the colour and fragrance in our latest batch of gin. So we did!

Legend has it that Saint Alban left magic wildflowers growing wherever he placed his feet. So for our latest batch of St Albans Gin, we added a bright but subtle bouquet of fresh lilac, violet and rose, almond-like cherry and blackthorn blossom and deeply clove-spiced carnation flowers.

Another delightful foraged gin to add to the growing St Albans collection!

Every gin we make has a uniquely wild element, gathered from the local forests, streams and hedgerows by Richard Osmond, our head distiller and botanical forager.

This season, Richard is is offering customers the chance to join him in the woods and hedgerows around the distillery for a guided foraging walk and wild drink tasting. These foraging events will be scheduled to begin on weekends in March with the arrival of Spring, but gift vouchers are available to purchase NOW, and make the perfect gift for the budding forager or wild-booze-enthusiast in your life.

Guests will meet at the Spirit of Hertfordshire Distillery opposite Osprey on Woodcock Hill and, from there, join Richard on a 2 hour tour of the local edible and aromatic wild countryside. Budding foragers will learn to tell delicious plants and mushrooms from deadly ones, learn a bit about the history and culture of using wild plants and get top tips from Richard on cooking and, most importantly, making drinks with wild ingredients.

When the group makes it back to the distillery, guests will sample a few of the wild concoctions mentioned on the walk, and may take advantage of a special discounted rate on our spirit boutique's range of gins and cocktail ingredients.

STEVENAGE GIN RETURNS!!

Stevenage (or “St Evenage” as it is affectionately known)
dates from Roman times, appeared in the Domesday Book
and was the England’s first ‘New Town in 1946.
A town with such a rich heritage needs a gin to call its own, and last year we launched not one but two! St Evenage Dry uses wild botanicals foraged from local St Evenage woods and hedgerows to accentuate a classic London Dry Gin flavour profile, while St Evenage Christmas Gin is a festive treat with the kind of warming spices found in Christmas cake and mince pies.
