Assyrtiko!

Mrs JBW's 2nd favourite wine after her beloved Picpoul de Pinet (aka her 'Strictly Wine').

Assyrtiko's the grape, and we first tasted it 10 years ago while holidaying in Santorini - its natural home - although this particular Assyrtiko comes from Thessaloniki on the Greek mainland.

It's made by the Kamara Winery, who are well known for their low intervention/natural wines. The cuvee is called 'Shadow Play' after the ancient Greek shadow theatres, and it's a real thirst-quencher! 'Packed with orchard fruit notes', as they might say in posh wine circles.

£24.95/bottle.

It's not on the website as it's a limited cuvee, but if you fancy a bottle or 6 DM us and we'll whizz some round to you.

We're selling quite a lot of Italian wines on the website at the moment, so here's a natural white from Calabria (Italy's 'shoelaces').

Made by AA Nasciri, this is a blend of Greco Bianco & Falanghina and is raised in stainless steel tanks (so it's unoaked). There's no added sulphites, and the wine undergoes no fining nor filtering.

Slightly sulphorous on the nose (to be expected from a natural wine, I guess, but it quickly dissipates), it's clean and fresh on the palate - an easy-drinking Wednesday evening glugger! Great with seafood, although we have homemade venison burgers tonight for some reason.....

The extraordinary 'Le Roc Ambulle' from the charming village of Fronton in SW France.

A light pink, gently sparkling fizz at only 9.5% ABV.

Great with tonight's Asparagus tart.

1 table x 2 remains if of interest, although we have space for a couple of walk-ins......

This Friday, 3rd May, is Music Night at JBW's!

With 'The Wine Shop Quartet'.

Doors open at 6.30pm. Music commences at 7.30pm.

Food, wine and beer available.

This will be the last Music Night for the foreseeable future, so get yourselves down to the Church Street shop and make the most of a fine quartet of musicians playing some great music.

Extraordinary white (yes, you heard me - white!) From Patrice Beguet based in Jura.

A blend of Grenache Blanc from Ventoux, Melon de Bourgogne from Loire and Gewurz from Alsace. 6 months in Acacia barrels. Biodynamic, no added sulphites. Neither filtered nor fined. Label by astist Aya Sato. Not cheap at £33/bottle, but a wine we've been keen to try for a while.

Dry, zesty, fresh with balanced tannins and a forward acidity.

Should do the business with tonight's pork chops.

Delighted to be supplying .crystalwatersltd seafood bar with this bone-dry, lightly sparkling Txakoli from the Basque coastal region of northern Spain. Perfect with seafood.....

So get yourselves down to Dan's this lunchtime and enjoy a glass in the spring sunshine!

After a busy yet chilled evening in the bar last night, it's onwards and upwards as we approach Saturday lunch.

We've added garlic prawns to the menu today alongside the hugely popular padron peppers and meatballs among others. Also have a couple of lovely local cheeses.

Service starts at midday. We have a few bookings, but tables are available and walk-ins are welcome.

We look forward to seeing you!
