🇨🇳🎉🐍Celebrating Chinese New Year? Why not indulge in some Chinese wine?

Chateau Changyu Moser XV lies west of Beijing in the province of Ningxia, in China’s most renowned wine-growing region. The winery has its roots in the Changyu company, founded in 1892 when Chinese diplomat Zhang Bishi imported more than 500,000 vines from the US and Europe, paving the way for Chinese wine production.

In 2013, 15th generation Austrian winemaker Lenz Moser became involved with this historic winery, and launched Chateau Changyu Moser XV. Since then, the estate has gone full steam ahead into the international market.

Lenz’s focus on vineyard management, blending and ageing has taken the quality of these wines to the next level, offering a shining example of Cabernet Sauvignon from Ningxia. Every stage of wine production at Changyu Moser takes place at the chateau, from pressing and fermentation, to maturation. The site even has its own museum, showcasing Chinese winemaking history.

While largely Bordeaux in style, Ningxia is developing its own unique sense of terroir. For Lenz, this terroir comes through as “a unique kind of Chinese spice” that you don’t find anywhere else. It’s a labour of love, too. While warm and sunny in summer, Ningxia can regularly plummet to -25°C in the winter, meaning expert vine care is needed to avert danger in this extreme terroir.

The colour of this Cabernet comes with a hue of rosé, just a touch to indicate its provenance. Surprisingly peachy on the nose with a cornucopia of floral aromas. On the palate it offers peach and exotic fruits with a hint of violet. The vibrancy comes from its perfectly balanced acidity.

Typical mature berry aromas on the nose, such as blackcurrant and blackberry and pleasant cedar, vanilla and oak aromas. On the palate this wine is full bodied, with a balanced and complete structure, mellow and full taste, fine and smooth tannins.

Whisky Concerto originates from Hong Kong and was founded by a group of local whisky enthusiasts by the end of 2019. Whisky Concerto works with single casks and cask strength launches, focusing on bringing distinctive but harmonious bottlings to the market. Apart from traditional Scotch whiskies, Whisky Concerto is venturing into bottle whiskies from new distilleries and emerging markets like Taiwan, Japan, Israel, etc, as well as rums from different regions. Two of the Co-Founders Richard Wong & Winnie Ng are the postgraduates of Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh majoring in Brewing & Distilling. Whisky Concerto is expanding their availability to UK.

Cask Le Sens was founded during the Covid time by 2 of the Co-Founders of Whisky Concerto, Richard & Winnie, together with one other business partner from Hong Kong. Unlike Whisky Concerto which is more focusing on individual products and branding, Cask Le Sens would like to focus more on whole cask trading, servicing and consultancy and meanwhile releasing occasionally special bottlings. Cask Le Sens also offers casks and bottling services directly for Corporate Projects, Independent bottler projects, Bars, Whisky Clubs and private customers.

If you wish to dine before the tasting, MITr are kindly offering a 10% discount to all tasting guests. Book a table early in the evening (the tasting starts at 7:30pm), or order you food on arrival to be served when the tasting concludes (around 9:30pm).

🍾Cuvée Rosé: Since 1968, Laurent‑Perrier has developed the mastery of a very particular and rare know-how in Champagne: maceration. This process makes it possible to obtain the richest and most subtle expression of Pinot Noir. This wine is characterized by its ripe red fruit aromas, a high intensity and great freshness.

🍾Grand Siècle: Three exceptional years chosen for their complementarity among the rare Laurent‑Perrier vintages.

A majority of Chardonnay complemented by Pinot Noir from a maximum of 11 Grands Crus out of the 319 Crus in the Champagne region.

Aged for 10 years on the lees for the bottle format and a few more years for the magnum format.
