Harvest is very much upon us! 🍎🍐🍏 We have been picking and pressing cider apples and perry pears for a few weeks now, trying as best as possible to keep up with the fruit as it ripens and is ready for us. Wow!! We have won First Prize for Dry Cider at the International Cider Competition held by the !

This is always the category that means the most to us, and it's extra special to be at the Museum of Cider. In 1991 Kenelm Johnson (my grandad!) won there with what I can only imagine was a very special cider - that year we went one better and won Supreme Champion!

It's a great endorsement of everything we're doing and I'm so proud of our whole team for being part of what we produce, and honoured to work alongside them. The winning blend was a combination of ciders from 2021 (60%), 2020 (30%), and 2019 (10%), mainly with Somerset Redstreak, Browns Apple and Tremletts Bitter.

The sun sets on another day in Stanway.
It's been a busy evening tasting ciders and preparing vats ready to blend a new batch of PT medium dry cider for bottling tomorrow.
After some deliberation I've decided on a 2020 Three counties which has some lovely deep smokey tannins and a 2020 Brown's which has softened to a distinctive but gentle acidity. These should compliment each other well and lend those distinctive PT flavours and characteristics that make it stand out from the rest.
