Established as a single shop in Pulborough in 1960 by Charles Hennings, the business is now under its third generation of family control, with Matthew Hennings at the helm, and also has a shop in Petworth. We are super excited to have been recognised at 8th place in Harper’s 50 Best Indies!
Although we have always featured in this list, I am very proud and pleased that we have made it into the top ten independent wine businesses in the UK, which places us within the top 1%!
It is great to see that we get this recognition from other judges and peers in our industry. As always, we are the sum of our parts, I am very proud of our team and hope they take some pride from it too, it is richly deserved.
Congratulations to everyone included in the top 50, it’s great to be featured amongst such brilliant businesses - long may the support for independents continue! 🥂

Two guys who know how to get the best out Chardonnay in their habitat. Both huge fans of burgundy, both spending time there and taking what they need to make great Chardonnays in both the in Italy and in UK. We have been massive fans of both Dermot and Dave for many years and whilst they are both making different wines, they don’t compromise on their ideals. Very exciting and inspiring winemakers. The “Tightrope” balance of Fruit, Acidity & Oak, used in different ways here, is superb. Dave has been making his Langhe Chardonnay for a few years now and I think this is the first still Chardonnay for Dermot. So many variables of course but blimey, they are getting the best out of this noble grape. 👏👌.
