This is a great full bodied supermarket wine purchased from @sainsburys for £9. A blend of Tempranillo & Syrah with a bit of age as those vanilla and leather notes come through. It’s very fruity though - I can’t see a vintage year on it so assuming it’s a NV.
Delicious, great branding if you like minimalist designs and perfect with a fillet steak 🥩 and chips 🍟

There are so many alternatives for sparking wine crashing the market right now and I am totally here for it.
In more recent years Prosecco has knocked all other sparkling wines off the top spot for what to buy if you want some fizz in your life but actually there are some nicer tasting, better value fizzes out there you can get your hand on like this Blanc de Blanc Brut from France. Made tank method like Prosecco but smoother and fuller in flavour. (Yes, another @goodpairdays sample)
Good quality fizz can range from £8.99 in Lidl and Aldi to about £25 for a very well made cremant @dopffaumoulin @hnwines or cava and I think sometimes can be nicer than champagne.

Ive unknowingly been picking wines with birds on recently. This was another from my selection from @goodpairdays - a Airén Spanish white from La Mancha, central Spain which I thought maybe would be better drunk in spring or summer but what I loved about it was how crisp it was. An intense flavour of citrus, apple, pear and peach and just wonderfully drinkable.
Perfectly paid with fish or a seafood dish with a splash of lemon 🍋
Tonight I made a classic winter warming beef stew using a recipe which is ingrained into my brain since I was about 11 years old. I used to help my mum with cooking and she always asked me to help her make the dumplings from flour and suet. I actually dislike dumplings immensely and since finding out I have a wheat intolerance can’t eat them in their classic form anyway so this is my version without dumplings. I’ve definitely overcooked it as it’s suppose to be a bit more liquidy but I don’t mind that it’s not.
I paired it with one of the @goodpairdays wines. Pardal Telhado ( which means carved sparrow - I don’t know why except for the pic on the label) 2023 from Lisbon. Beautiful ruby red in colour, silky smooth and a blend of Aragonez & Castelão which have a great berry taste. Paired pretty well if I do say so myself! A great easy drinking red - would buy again!

Seeing as I’ve been completely cleared out of red wine (thanks you lovely lot) I’ve had improvise as I’ve been unorganised and not had time to go to a indie wine shop this weekend so I picked up this little Douro 2022 red Portuguese blend from @aldiuk which for £8.99 is absolutely delicious. It has decent amount of body and complexity to it and paired perfectly with my quick and easy play on a roast dinner today. Absolutely delish 😋 would recommend!

One of the other cookbooks I’m making new recipes from is @stanleytucci The Tucci Table, a book which is further driving us to visit Italy later this year.
This evening I made the carbonnade de boeuf using a lovely dark @leffe.belgium soooo rich, cooked for 3hrs and really over did it on the portion size as I could only eat half of what I put on the plate. It was nearly as good as the one they do at @huissouthsea 😉
Part of my New Year’s Resolution is to make more meals from cookbooks - paired with wonderful wines obviously. So I thought I start a bit early with delicious dish from the Greekish cookbook I was bought for Christmas!
A chicken thigh based dish with all my favourites - potatoes, tomatoes and black olives roasted in the oven and cooked and enjoyed with Crémant De Loire from @aldispecialbuysuk For £4.99 a bottle. An absolute bargain if you ask me and a great pairing!

I’m writing to share some bittersweet news: after much thought, Wines by the Sea will be closing its doors after Christmas. With our lease coming up for renewal in January, we’ve decided that now feels like the right time to take a step back from running a bricks-and-mortar shop. We’ll be making the limited company dormant for now and focusing on new opportunities for the future.
When we first opened the store, my husband and I had big travel plans that were sadly sidelined by Covid. Now, with a renewed sense of adventure, we’ve decided it’s time to embark on the journey we’ve always dreamed of. The shop has been an incredible experience, but our desire to explore and learn about the world of wine firsthand has never faded. We’re excited to travel to the regions we’ve always wanted to understand better, starting in Spain in May, followed by Italy, and eventually South America by the end 2025 and Australia & New Zealand in 2026.
Our final day of full price trading will be today until 4pm, but we’ll also be holding a clearance sale on Friday, December 27th from 11am to 2:30pm. Please join us for a final toast and farewell, and to take advantage of discounts on our remaining stock.
I’d like to express my deepest thanks to you for your incredible support over the last three years. Your patronage has meant the world to us, and we’ve learned so much from all of you. This isn’t goodbye, though—just a new beginning!
