Black Hand Wine Honest wine, beer and spirits personally selected and sold by a friendly, trained winemaker specialising in organic/biodynamic/no added sulfites wines.

Please come and say hello! Real wine, spirits and beer chosen and sold by a qualified winemaker and biodynamic grapegrower with 15+ years' experience in top domaines in NZ, France and N.Spain. Particular focus on organic and biodynamic wines, plus a few 'no added sulfite' wines to boot, but the only criteria for any wine to be stocked is that it is honest and I like it. ills from the barrel and am lucky enough to sell the odd wine I make over in Burgundy every year with my old friend and fellow oenologist Romain Chapuis. Prices start from £7 and although I charge for the wine, the knowledge comes free... please feel free to ask any questions you like about wine, wine making, food matching and more when you come to the shop. Please do write to your local MP (Markus Campbell-Savours)and remind him that, unlike them, your wine is not subsidised and these pointless, punitive tax rises (which mean LESS revenue for the Government, not more!) are hurting small businesses and hitting discerning consumers of lovely organic wine in the pocket - again. Grrrr! 🤬🤯🥂

Consumers are being warned “to brace themselves” for the “double whammy tax grab” on drinks that is on the horizon.

Lovely winter light on Castlegate, with JB Banks hardware shop on the left… founded in 1836 and still going strong, if you want a quality reconditioned axe, a bag of brass screws, a fork handle or just four candles, Banks is the shop. There’s also a free fi****ms museum at the back. Absolutely world class shop - just proper.

Lovely evening last night to launch Ben Queen-Fryer’s wonderful Dog and Gun cookbook. If there’s a more talented, less humble Michelin-starred chef out there, I’d be surprised. Fantastic food, brilliant team, great atmosphere and just what a chef! My Goodness but the Gamay is ripe! If it tastes as good as it feels (and sounds!) then the 2017 is going to be as good as the 2016 I'm bringing back for the shop next week... cheers!

Picking pretty much done except for some Gamay and Aligote and no more pigeage for the time being. It's remontage time instead which involves a lot of bucket filling and lifting... 180 x 2 today and counting!
