Good afternoon

We are really pleased to tell you that Riverside Stores & Post Office has reached the Southwest Finalist of The Countryside Alliance Rural Oscars award. We were nominated back in 2023 but never reached the finals. This year and thanks to you, we are now 2025 finalists.

This is a huge honour and one that can only be nominated by our customers and supporters. It’s also a really great endorsement of how the community supports and values the village shop and the important role we all play in ensuring our village is a wonderful place to live.

To reach this stage we would have had secret shoppers and representatives come into the shop and enquire what we do and how we support local businesses through our stock and how customers view and value the shop.

The next stage is an online portal where you can all contribute by voting for us and placing the village as somewhere to live with a thriving supportive and active community.

Voting opens in early March where you can vote for us to reach the national finals that are held in the House of Lords in London.

Please keep an eye out for further details.

Good evening.

We are open again as normal from tomorrow.

We would like to thank Jo Pritchard for standing in for us on Friday and to the rest of the team in supporting us to make a quick dash to Scotland to see our 1st Grandchild.

It was an emotional visit and one well will always remember.

Our apologies for anyone who was inconvenienced in this short closer, but we are both sure you would understand why. It was a mammoth journey of 18 hours there and back…but absolutely worth it.

Notice of temporary opening hours:

The shop and Postoffice will be closed Saturday 18/01/25 through to Monday 20/01/25. Reopening on Tuesday 21/01/25 as normal.

FRIDAY 17/01/25 - the Postoffice WILL BE CLOSED, the shop will be open as from 09:00-17:00, closing an hour earlier than normal and operated by temporary volunteers.

Shop paper collections will be in their usual locations on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

Deliveries will remain unchanged and will operate as normal, including Saturdays veg & fruit boxes.

No changes to orders can be made after Wednesday 15/01/25.

We have had to make the decision to abandon ALL rounds/Deliveries today due to the road conditions and the safety of our drivers.

If you wish to collect then please come in and do so, otherwise all accounts we be credited.

Roads into and out of the village are still very icy.

Good “SNOWY” Morning

For obvious reasons due to the weather we have had to abandon the Brentor & Chillaton Rounds as our drivers felt the road are too risky as they are untreated. All accounts will be credited.

Bridestowe Area

This will be attempted but again, if the roads are to difficult then this round will also be abandoned. All accounts will be credited.

WE ARE OPEN…..ROAD CLOSURE

Although the signs at the top of the village entrance by tree tops states the road is closed. Access to the Shop/Postoffice and the pub are unaffected. Access to the fox & hounds is closed.

Good Afternoon.

Andrew Jackson, the ReformUK candidate for Torridge and Tavistock, will be coming to Bridestowe Saturday afternoon around 13:30 for a pint and a chat should anyone wish to come and meet him.

Andrew is a veteran of the Royal Marines and served in Bosnia and Iraq. When he left the service he was a contractor out in Iraq and also since then has been a forester. His wife was a former Metropolitan police officer whose family is from Plymouth.

Andrew grew up in rural Oxfordshire in a village very similar to Bridestowe until he signed up. He understands the uniqueness of rural villages and the issues we face, along with the national issues we now have.

This is entirely informal, so please do pop along, support the pub with a pint and have a chat and meet someone of a likeness to ourselves and who really does understand rural issues and concerns.

Had a really genuine couple of hours this afternoon with our Reform UK candidate Andrew Jackson Reform UK - Torridge & Tavistock discussing local small businesses, farming and their policies and about him. Veteran and an all round nice guy that actually listened and engaged. Quite refreshing. More to come I am sure. He’s standing against Sir Geoffrey Cox…whom I’ve not seen for 4 years and considering how difficult these last few years have been for small businesses, farmers and us all, it’s great to actually sit down and meet someone who actually relates to you.

Should anyone wish to have a chat with Andy, then I will try and organise a session with him for you.
