To hopefully tempt you dry January-ers, we're doing zero corkage on all wines in the restaurant on Wednesday and Thursday evenings until the end of the month. Well that didn’t take long! We are now fully booked but we do have a wait list just in case. Don’t worry though, we’ve been planning the calendar for the rest of the year with some big events - especially for our 25th anniversary! Keep your eyes peeled.

We are back and ready to kick off our 2025 wine dinners on Thursday 6th February with a real treat from one of the best winemakers in South Africa – Gottfried Mocke.

Gottfried is the chief winemaker for Boekenhoutskloof Winery (home of The Chocolate Block) in Franschhoek and also heads up an exciting project in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Boekenhoutskloof was voted Winery of the Year in 2020 as well as Gottfried being named Winemaker of the Year in 2020 by Tim Atkin.

As always, we have knocked up a fantastic 6 course menu to accompany the wines:

The evening kicks off at 7pm and tickets are £100 per head including a £25 voucher to be redeemed against purchases on the night. It’s a real treat to be able to try some of these wines, with some of them retailing at £50 per bottle, and we even have a few “library release” back-vintages available too.

Christmas without caviar is like Christmas without wine!

We're stocked up with a range from Exmoor Caviar who are based in Exmoor National Park in Devon. Their little salty pearls are used in Michelin starred restaurants all over the UK (100+ stars in total!)

We've built quite a following for the wonderful Macneil's Smoked Salmon, with virtually all who experience it faithfully ordering a side each Christmas. We have to confirm our final order on Monday, so last chance saloon if you want a show-stopping centrepiece for the Christmas/Boxing Day feast. Responsibly sourced Scottish salmon, delicate and fine in flavour with none of the sliminess of most products on the market.

We offer their multi-award-winning beechwood smoked salmon and their hot-kiln roasted smoked salmon as whole sides, priced at £60/kg. (A bit of potluck on the size front- they vary from 1kg-1.5kg, but most are around £1.2kg.)

Need inspiration for a 'novel' Christmas gift?...

De:Books continues in January! (Amusing to see that a Frodsham business 'borrowed' our Reading Between the Wines strap-line, but hey ho (ho ho).)

The next episode will lead us into the intoxicating world of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind. This dark, evocative tale of obsession and the art of scent will keep you on the edge of your seat.

What to Expect:
📖 Engaging Discussion: Informally explore the themes and characters of Perfume with the wonderful Howard Kelly, former head of English at The Grange. No pressure- you won't get picked on and can sit and soak it all up if you prefer.

🍇 Wine Ed: Learn about the wine region that (tenuously) links to the book. Philippa will introduce you to two French beauties, a white and a red.
🗓️ When: Tuesday January 14th 2025 7 – 9pm
📍 Where: Define HQ

Tickets are £25 which includes two glasses of wine and a wee cheeseboard. They really are wonderful evenings- I never thought I was a book club kind of guy, but I'm hooked!

Jon's Little Helper - aka Liam the Little Wine Elf - has been busy in the packaging department this week. No order too big for the wee Wigan lad and still plenty of time to get yours in! You can leave the delivery and gift wrapping to us too. Shop is open 6 days (closed on Mondays) or give us a call if you need any assistance.

LE BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU VA ARRIVER BIENTOT!
JEUDI to be precise!

We've shipped a chunk of Beaujolais Villages from a cracking Fleurie producer, André Colonge. It's arrived, but we've promised Macron we won't sell it until 10am on the third Thursday of November. It's £16/bt and offers a great amount of fruit, fun and frivolity- much needed me thinks.

Do it in style, grab a few mates and head in for lunch. This week's special- a classic French bistro combo- available from Thursday to Saturday:

~Bavette Steak et frites, with green beans, French fries and a beurre Café de Paris
~Tarte au Citron

2 courses for £22.50
Add a 175ml glass of Nouveau for £7.50.

A sneak preview 👀🍷

For those joining our Grand Tasting this coming Sunday, here are the wines that will be available to taste. Some absolute crackers on there with some very generous pricings! Everyone will get a booklet on the day which also doubles up as your order form.
