Those of you who know us well will understand that we have a soft spot for Polly's Brew Co. They have always been a pleasure to deal with and given our small scale we can't talk highly enough of their beers and customer service.
This week we took stock of some of our favourite core beers and a new stunner that is everything great about their beer.
So if you are new to us then we urge you to give these guys a go and if you have been with us right throughout lockdown you know how consistently good they are.

A trio of Trappist superpowers - La Trappe, Tynt Meadow, and Zundert - came together in secrecy to brew this special Dubbel. It pays tribute to the three fundamental rules of authentic Trappist brewing, the foundation and cornerstone of this exceptional beer. The profile is rich, well-balanced and bittersweet, with aromas of sweet caramel, roasted malt and delicate hints of peat, complemented by spicy and hoppy undertones. Full-bodied, unique and indulgent.
Three Rules of Authentic Trappist - 7.4% Special Dubbel is available online now.
We are very excited, because not only have Braybrooke Beer Co collaborated with Cloudwater Brew Co in their latest release, they have also re released our favourite of theirs…the Baltic Porter 😃
But what the hell is a Baltic Porter anyway?
The origins can be traced back to 18th century England and working class (you guessed it) ‘porters’ who worked the city streets and dockyards around the country. It began as a take on the English Brown Ale that got deeper and darker eventually evolving into more of a high velocity brew.
As this style of beer became more popular, Porters became widely exported. In fact Porters were one of the first beer styles to extend beyond their regional roots to become a favorite across the world.
Porter exports took particular hold in the Baltic regions of Europe, that is until Napoleon cut off that pipeline in 1806 and regional brewers started making them locally.
But unlike the original English Porters that were imported, local brewers in these cold-weather countries which bordered the Baltic Sea, substituted bottom fermenting lager yeast which fared better in the region. The use of this yeast, as opposed to the more warm weather-friendly ale yeast used by the Brits, is what most defines a Baltic Porter as opposed to a stouts.
Baltic Porters are cold-fermented and cold-lagered, which helps preserve their clean and complex flavors. They are lagers not ales and with that comes a smoother mouthfeel. And in keeping with cold-weather usually comes a higher alcohol count.
A true Baltic Porter is something very special, especially during the wintertime.
The name of the brewery is inspired by the owner's dog who sits in the window watching the world go by. He is a Jack Russell named Bo, who was adopted from dogs trust and has lived with them since 2012. He is such a big part of the family he deserved pride of place.
It all started as a simple social get-together between three friends who enjoyed sampling homebrews. In 2018, what began as a small homebrew operation evolved into a full-fledged commercial brewery that offers the delicious beers you see today.
Their prized beer-making water emanates from a natural Welsh spring which is renowned for its purity and taste.

Dreams of Brew York 2024 - takes inspiration from the classic festive flavours of apple and cinnamon. Heaps of juicy apples combine with spicy cinnamon with lactose rounding off the tartness perfectly.
Nightmare of Brew York 2024 - takes inspiration from the beloved festive treat of Stroopwafel. This year their festive stout is a super rich milk stout with flavours of caramel and a subtle cinnamon spicing. Additional lactose adds a rich creamy body.
Left-Handed Giant’s very latest 6.5% Hazy IPA, this time bursting with Manilita, Nelson Sauvin & Motueka.
On a super pale base they have added white wheat, oat & spelt malt for a full and creamy texture. LHG are continuing to explore experimental New Zealand hop varieties, courtesy of Freestyle Hops, with this addition of Manilita.
It’s a mid-harvested variety, from the Thiol Amplifier Blocks of the Sunrise Valley Farm, that’s giving endless sweet tropical waves & adds a new dimension to the signature character of NZ hops.
