Happy Saturday ☀️

Slightly warmer days call for our Menu Du Jour. Which, as always is a Pork pie with Derek’s chutney, a cask pint which this week is the first cask release from Sureshot called Small Man’s Wetsuit a 3.9% soft, juicy sessionable pale.

Also, we have lots of delicious keg offerings, some fantastic new summery wines btg and those olives that everyone’s still shocked we serve in their tins.

HWC PRESENTS: TOUR DE FRANCE

Another highly anticipated tasting - a journey through the wine regions of France, informed by the 2024 route for the Tour de France!

France is the most famous and renowned wine-making country in the world and this is no different in regard to natural wine. The natural wine movement as we know it began in France as a push-back to chemical agriculture and has evolved into to a commitment against the use of pesticides, adding minimal-to-no sulphur, sorting grapes for quality control, and making any additions to the wine - in short, a commitment to make and promote pure wines. France to this day remains a pioneer and the centre-point for natural wine makers.

This is a tasting with a difference - throughout the night we will taste wines from 7 (that’s right - 7!!) different regions along the Tour de France trail. Legends and newcomers alike will grace your glasses with their stories and journeys into natural winemaking.

Join me at 7pm sharp on Thursday 25th April - £45 for 7 wines, snacks and a good time! Tickets on sale Monday 15th April at 12pm - see you there 🍷

Lambic alert!
Pouring now we have the absolutely phenomenal Rhubarbe - Tilquin!

It’s Rhubarb season and it’s nearly spring so it feels like the perfect time to put on a pretty special beer. Gueuzerie Tilquin are the newest lambic brewery on the block but are also absolutely one of the best and this beer exemplifies their quality. Brewed with 240g of locally grown Rhubarb per litre of their base lambic this beer is zesty, tarty and ridiculously drinkable.

What a way to start March 💥

HWC Presents: Women In Wine

As a Woman-ran Wine Club and a Bar with a mostly female team, promoting and stocking wine made by women-led wineries is very important to us, but also can be hard to source in a male-dominated industry.

Despite being a male-dominated industry, the history of winemaking is littered with women trailblazers and connections. The ancient Egyptians believed that wine was a gift from the goddess of fertility and so the connection to women goes back for centuries, but so does the exclusion of women. In that very same Ancient Egypt, upper-class men would have jars of wine placed in their tombs after death to allow them to enjoy the afterlife. Women, however, were not allowed wine in their tombs for fear they would get drunk and act in a promiscuous fashion in the afterlife.

As we enter the 21st century, more and more doors are being opened for women to be a part of the winemaking scene. It’s not unusual to find women as winemakers, vineyard managers and sommeliers - the likes of Nuria Ren Sophie Evans Anna Frost Vanessa Stoltz to name a few inspirations. Hopefully one day, the fact that a certain wine was made by a woman winemaker won’t be a talking point, novelty or a privilege, but just a fact. Until then, we will continue to celebrate the women who make these beautiful natural wines.

Join me on Sunday 11th March at 7pm to celebrate women in wine and winemaking for International Women’s Day & Mother’s Day
Tickets on sale from 12pm Friday 1st March - limited as always! £40 for 5 glasses, snacks and a good time.

Artwork by .io - Please message us if you would like an A2 print of any of these beautiful designs - £20 unframed.

HWC PRESENTS: Viva Catalunya!

The third installment of our country/regional exploration tastings takes us to the historic region of Catalonia.

Traditionally the home of Cava, a landmark among the world’s sparkling wines, Catalonia is now a hotbed of natural winemakers who are revitalising both commercially used and lesser-know, forgotten grapes of the region.

With Barcelona at its midpoint, Catalonia includes 11 specific DOs stretching from the Pyrenees border in the north to Tarragona in the south, its perhaps the most celebrated wine region in Spain. Catalonia is the prime region in Spain for natural wine producers, perhaps due to the proximity to Barcelona - a city that has embraced natural wine with open arms.

Join me on Thursday 29th February at 7pm to to explore the wines of this expansive and historic area, with wines from our friends at - the champion of Spanish/Catalonian natural wines in the UK.

Tickets on sale from 12pm Wednesday 21st February - limited as always! £35 for 5 glasses, snacks and a good time

Fizzy red for two?

2 specials on tonight.
1st one is Fizzy Vermell by Cap De Nit
Continuing the theme of tonight’s sold out couples in wine tasting. Cap De Nit is a winery in Alicante by an English and German couple, and this is an extremely rare pet-nat by them - only around 300 bottles! A blend of Moscatel and Giro - an absolute fruit bomb, loaded with cherry, strawberries and fresh red fruits, it’s perfect for the occasion.

2nd up Roig Boig - La Salada
Why not celebrate the occasion by putting the most fun wine in our fridges on by the glass. A Catalonian wine loaded with a blend of native red and white grapes leads to red fruits, wild flowers and slight balsamic with a great acidic edge. Sumptuous.

FEBRUARY STAFF WINE PICKS
Ailsa’s Picks
Cerreto - Antonio Gismondi
A staff favourite winemaker here at House. 100% Malvasia di Candi. Textural & bright with notes of peach, grapefruit & a smoky edge.
Rockaille Billy - No Control
This new addition is 100% Gamay d’Auvergne - one for the natural wine lovers. Volancic minerality with notes of fresh red fruit, black pepper & an earthy finish.
Rosarella - Malauva
One to add to our growing collection of Pinks/Chilled Reds. A blend of red & white Italian grapes & full of ripe red berries, tropical fruit & a nice grip.
Carricola - Celler Tomas Torres
This shop favourite is a blend of Tempranillo & Syrah. Soft tannins with delicate aromas and just pure cranberry on the palate. An absolute beauty.

Ethan’s picks
Les Vin Des Amis - Mas Coutelou
Blend of Cinsault, Grenache & Syrah, the perfect wine for this brisk weather. Warming but fresh with great depth & nice spice.
Pim Pam - Vinyes Singulars
A new arrivals, blend of tonnes of beautiful Spanish grapes from Catalonia. Easy going & approachable with a burst of zesty citrus.
Fizzy - Glow Glow
Scheurebe, Bacchus & Muller Thurgau amplified up beyond your wildest dreams. Gentle fizz with pops of mango, passion fruit & melon.
Baciami Ancora - Antonio Gismondi
Another from Gismondi, this time 100% Camaiola is the star of the show. Super playful, exciting with loads of strawberry and cherry cola.

HWC PRESENTS: PARTNERS IN WINE

Can’t think of a better way to spend valentines than drinking wine with your partner or your friends? Well you’re in luck because the next Heaton Wine Club tasting will take us all on a romantic trip, showcasing couples who make wine together - how bloody cute?

Winemaking is at its heart a family business - ran by people with a love for each other and their craft. Some wineries are forged through marriage, with long-running winemaking families marrying each other to create something new from the teachings and traditions of their ancestors; others are created by couples with a love of wine taking the plunge together to follow their passions and creating a life and career with each other in a region they love.

Natural wine, for me, is all about the people behind the wines - tasting their processes, passion, region, hardwork, and the love that goes into each vintage and so I can’t think of better theme to explore on the day of looooooove!

Tickets on sale now - limited as always! £40 for 5 glasses, snacks and a good time

Burns Week! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
To round off January in style we are catching the Lumo up North and bringing back some of our favourite Scottish breweries to invade our taps. Alongside the Newbarns beers mentioned in the previous announcement, we’ll be pouring beers from the likes of , . And, of course it wouldn’t be a Scottish tap takeover without the infamous Iron Brew beers. Most beers will be pouring from Monday 22nd with the Newbarns collaborations joining us on Thursday.
We’ll even have some special Haggis Scottish Rolls from on the counter for the weekend.

Plus, if you’re really lucky you might get Ailsa reciting ‘Auld Lang Syne’ in her best Dundonian twang. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
