Our wine of the week is Guv'nor VIP 🍷🍇

The Guv’nor VIP is not the best of two worlds, but three. Robbing grapes from some of the biggest names in Spain – Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Toro – this pioneering bandit doesn’t care about tradition, only great taste. It's an upgrade on everything the Guv'nor stands for: better grapes, meticulously applied oak, and an even smoother, fruitier taste. He’s taken Majestic’s number one best-selling wine, and made it even better. The Guv’nor rewrote the rule book on wine, taking away vintages, classifications and restrictions. This wine packs a punch with bold flavours of black cherry, red plum, and blackberry, balanced with a touch of savoury oak and mellow spice. It's like a black forest gateau with a kick. Drink with rich dishes and great company.

Open to taste! Graham Beck Pinot Noir 2018🥂🤩
£19.99 Mix Six, £22.99 single bottle.

Graham Beck is the biggest name in South African sparkling wine. They've produced excellent bubbles since the 1980s, using the second-fermentation 'traditional method' – known here as Méthode Cap Classique – and won countless awards in doing so. This vintage pink sparkling is made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. It has an elegant, creamy mousse and flavours of ripe strawberry and raspberry. Try pairing it with smoked salmon canapés or a red-fruit-based dessert.

Parcel Series is for when top-class wineries need to make space quickly and discreetly. So we pick up their wines at a fraction of the usual price and pass the savings to you. The catch? We can't tell you who makes it. This wine is produced in Hawke's Bay, one of New Zealand's most famous regions. It's located on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island and is known for its gravel soils and rich red blends. The vineyard that produces this wine turns out exceptional Bordeaux-style wines in an area renowned for its temperate climate on the brink of the Pacific Ocean. Aged in oak, this Parcel Series blend of French varietals is rich in ripe red fruit notes with undercurrents of blackberry and bramble. With elegant tannins and a supple texture, it’ll be a great match for game meats and smoky cheese.

🥂With over 260 years of winemaking history, Lanson is one of the oldest houses in Champagne. Each Création is unique, made with the best grapes from over 100 crus and reserve wines dating back over a decade. And each blend carries its own number – in reference to the number of harvests that have taken place since Maison Lanson was founded in 1760.

Lanson Le Black Label Brut, the 257th blend, predominantly uses wine from the 2017 vintage, which produced Chardonnay with marked freshness, intensely fruity Pinot Noir, and notably supple Pinot Meunier. It's then aged for four years before release to dial up the complexity. You’ll find it rich yet elegant with ripe citrus and orchard-fruit flavours, plus notes of brioche and dried fruits.

Lanson made one of the first rosé Champagnes. 60 years later, they've perfected their recipe. The Grande Marque's signature rosé is coloured a delightful salmon pink. It's well-rounded and fresh, with intriguing aromas of roses and red fruits. It makes an ideal partner to delicate white meat dishes, or even fresh fruit desserts.

The Roberts family began crafting sparkling wine in Ditchling in the mid-nineties. Their winery is now regarded as one of England’s finest. Some bottlings have even been served at state banquets hosted by the Royal Household – a sure sign of their excellence. Now managed by the second generation, sustainability is at the heart of their business, and Ridgeview is currently the only holder of B Corp certification for a traditional method English sparkling wine company. Bloomsbury is a classic, equal-part blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. After 25 years of experience, Simon Roberts ensures only the finest grapes make the cut. Rich. Rounded. Toasty. Wine of the week! Open to taste - E.Guigal Gigondas 🍇🍷

Gigondas is where you'll fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape-esque reds at great value, and E. Guigal is one of the finest producers in the Rhône Valley. Here, it presses Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes and ages the wine for two years in oak. The result is full-bodied and intense, with powerful hints of red fruit, liquorice and oak and supple tannins. Jeb Dunnuck gave the 2016 vintage 93-95 points.
