⭐️ G&G 2024 Round-up : PART THREE Sept to Dec ⭐️

🤩 As we draw this year to a close, there’s no better time to look back on what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months. So join us for a bit of self-indulgence as we look back on the adventures we took during the months of Sept to Dec.

🇦🇺 September was a very proud month for me as we celebrated a country that is close to my heart. It was an honour to kick off our Australia Month with Pete from Pikes- one of the best in the biz. He went out of his way to come and host that event, and I can’t thank him enough for that. A great night and a real highlight of the year. Also, Gordon from the Rathbone Group came with wines from the first ever winery I visited- Yering Station. I ended the month dancing with an inflatable Kangaroo (video 8th Oct).

🇦🇺 vs 🇳🇿 September’s celebrations also saw me and Bryce fight it out for the inaugural Bin 21 Trophy (which he later smashed 😮), as we pitted some of our favourite wines from Oz and NZ against each other. Bryce won by 5 1/2 to 3 1/2…..but I don’t like talking about that too much! Moving on….

🏠 October saw the first of what we hope to be many Village Hall tastings as we hosted an event in Stannington. Over 50 people turned up and we raised a good amount of money for Stannington First School PTA. We hope to come to a village hall near you soon….

🇿🇦 In November we had a visit from legendary South African winemaker Ken Forrester. Sadly, it was only for me and Bryce this time (next time it’ll be for the public), but what a delight it was to listen and learn from such a legend and a good all round top bloke! It was a real highlight for us.

🥃 December I was mostly in a van or surrounded by boxes for our commercial stuff, but we also hosted tastings with Adele from the incredible Isle of Raasay Distillery, and our very own Paddy braved Storm Darragh to showcase the best of the Isle of Man’s Fynoderee Distillery.

😊 There was just a taste of what we’ve got up to this year. We’ve done quite a bit. We hope we’ve kept it interesting you. Without your support, none of the above happens. Let’s see what we can get up to in 25!

Cheers
Mark 🥂

⭐️ G&G 2024 Round-up : PART TWO May to August ⭐️

🤩 As we draw this year to a close, there’s no better time to look back on what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months. So join us for a bit of self-indulgence as we look back on the adventures we took during the months of May to August.

🇳🇿 May was New Zealand month here at G&G, as we celebrated all things NZ with 10% off all NZ wines, as well as hosting a string of tasting events. It was kicked off by Marie from Seifried, and also included us having to do the same tasting THREE times due to it popularity! Our celebrations was all apart of NZ Winegrowers campaign to .

🇦🇺 May also included a visit to Pall Mall in London for the first of Amelia Jukes’ Australia focused tastings. The inaugural event celebrated the Shiraz/Syrah grape and included wines from across the country- in both new and old vintages. These tasting have been one of the highlights of the year for me. Great wines from a country that is close to my heart. Not only that, but for me they were informative, inspiring, and help me develop our Australian offering to the next level. Thank you to Amelia for organising them and we look forward to see what is planned for 2025!

🍻 A busy May saw us host our first tasting with our friends at the Office pub. A great night was had by all. Thank you to Andrea for the invite. We hope to host similar events next year!

🇫🇷 June saw me on my travels again but this time it was for a holiday with the family. We travelled to the Loire Valley and had the most wonderful time. We visited some incredible producers and we were bowled over by the warm welcome we received. Guess where we’re heading to next year??? Yep, back to the same place. We loved it!

🍾 June was rounded off with a visit to Glasgow to an event to celebrate Pol Roger’s 175th Birthday. Sitting in the sun in Glasgow and drinking excellent champagne- well, it’s hard work, but somebody has to do it!

🥃 In August we were invited by our friends at Ad Gefrin distillery for a very special day out. It included a tour of their state-of-the-art distillery in Wooler, lunch at their beautiful restaurant, and most excitingly- a taste of what is to become their new Single Malt. Still abit young, but it is well on its way! What a real honour that was for us. We are looking at ways we can further strengthen our partnership with the guys up there going forward.

That’s what our summer looked liked.

📅 PART THREE - Sept to December to follow….

Cheers

⭐️ G&G 2024 Round-up : PART ONE Jan to April ⭐️

🤩 As we draw this year to a close, there’s no better time to look back on what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months. So join us for a bit of self-indulgence as we look back on the adventures we took during January to April.

🏏 The year kicked off with a trip to the Oval cricket ground for the Liberty portfolio tasting. The wine almost came secondary as being a big cricket fan it was a pleasure to visit a ground I’ve always want to. Next time it will be for a game!

🇫🇷 One of the highlights of the year was an unforgettable trip to Montpellier with Marta Vine to the Milliseme Bio- Europe’s largest Organic wine fair. I will forever be indebted to Marta and Kevin for giving me the opportunity to attend and identify wines for the UK market. It helped me look at the work our suppliers put in to choose the wines that come to our shelves. Basically, there’s a lot of “meh” wines, and it take me a lot of searching to find some Bobby Dazzlers (technical term for a bloody good plonk!).

🇳🇿 In February we visited the NZ Trade Tasting and Wines of Australia events in London. Always a highlight for us at G&G, at the NZ event we first met up with the Antipodean Sommelier- who we have worked with a lot ever since. It showed to us that despite the long trip “darn sarf”, it can be very worthwhile to the business in the medium to long term and help develop relationships that will help our business grow.

🇳🇿 In February I also enjoyed two of my fav wines of 24 at the Fells tasting in IET Savoy- Seifried’s 2023 a Gewürztraminer and Te Mata’s Bullnose Syrah 2019. Both tables were right next to each other. Definitely the part of the room where the cool kids hung out!

🎤 In March was a trip to the Royal Opera House for the Richmond wine tasting event. There I met two winemakers from two of my absolute favourite wineries - Kai Schubert from Schubert wines, NZ 🇳🇿 , and Roberto Luka from Finca Sophenia, Argentina 🇦🇷 . What a real joy to meet two masters of their art! I simply adore their wines 🍷

😆 In April I managed to convince some of our social media followers that we were opening a second branch in Morpeth, NSW, Australia 🇦🇺. Even to this day I am getting people asking when I am moving…or is it wishful thinking on their part! One of the best April fools we’ve done!

📅 PART TWO - May to August to follow….

🎄 One of the best and most functional Christmas cards we’ve ever received- a card that can be used as a dish cloth!

🇳🇿 Featuring the Pōhutukawa, this is New Zealand's Christmas tree, and holds a prominent place in Maori mythology.

🍁 The leaves turn a vivid red during the months around the Christmas period. It’s looks beautiful and really is a sight to behold. Not only that, but Bryce used to have two in his garden in NZ!

☺️ Thank you so much to Marie and our dear friends at Seifried for sending it.

🎅🏻 WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY KIWI CHRISTMAS FROM ALL OF US AT G&G! 🇳🇿

Cheers
