Why not join us for a stroll around town, taking a look at the highlights of Lancaster's rich history? 2000 years of occupation are explored in this guided walk, from the development of the area as a northern Roman outpost, to the current modern city boasting two universities. Along the way we take in Norman invaders, Georgian merchants, Edwardian philanthropists & 20th Century criminals!

The tour departs from Lancaster Castle’s main entrance – the John O’Gaunt Gatehouse - at 7.30pm and ends around 1.5 hours later in Dalton Square.

🔵Morecambe BID Celebrates a Major Milestone for Eden Project Morecambe!🔵

🔵Morecambe, 23 May 2024 – The sun is shining brighter over Morecambe Bay today as we share some exciting news about the Eden Project Morecambe. After months of anticipation, the first £5 million of government funding has been released, marking a significant step forward in this transformative project!

🔵Gearing Up for Groundbreaking
We know what you’re thinking—“When will we see some action on site?” Well, our patience is about to pay off. This initial funding is set to kickstart the next phase, allowing Eden Project Morecambe to continue into the construction phase. You might want to keep those hard hats handy, as work could be visible by the end of this year.

🔵What's Next?
The Eden Project Morecambe team will roll up their sleeves and dive into the development phase as the funds flow in. While we await the finalisation of the full £50 million in private funding, this initial 5 million boost confirms a continuation of the progress by the Eden team. The Eden Project Morecambe site is due to host various events over the summer, but as autumn begins, you may spot the first signs of Eden Project Morecambe taking shape this year.

This isn’t just a win for Eden; it’s a win for us all. Eden Project Morecambe promises to bring a wave of positive change, boost local businesses, increase tourism, and cement our beloved Morecambe as a vibrant hub of activity.

📅 On 14 May 1926 at 42 Buxton Street, in the seaside town of Morecambe, John Eric Bartholomew was born. Bartholomew later found fame, along side his sidekick Ernie Wise, as Eric Morecambe, a hugely successful comedy partnership that was to last 43 years. 🎂

In July 1999 a commemorative bronze sculpture of the late Eric Morecambe, by Graham Ibbeson, was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II on Morecambe Promenade. 👑

Away from the stage Eric was a keen birdwatcher. In 2012 RSPB Leighton Moss named one of their new hides after Eric, in recognition of his support for the charity. 🦢

Despite a surprising attempted theft back in 2014, Ibbeson's statue remains a lasting legacy to one of the area's most famous sons & a great photo opportunity too! 🌞
