We’re having another giveaway of frozen food just like the one we did last August. It’s all out of date chilled food that was put in the freezer when it expired. It’s mostly bacon, sausage, Lorne and pies, plus a few other things.

Starts at 7pm tonight. Come and get as much as you have freezer space for.

Rizzas and Sinclairs do Christmas specials. Order in the shop, collect a few days later.

More specifically, order Rizzas by noon on Tuesday 12th to collect on Wednesday 13th, order Sinclairs by noon on any Monday/Thursday to collect on Tuesday/Friday.

We’ve just received our Keptie Bakery delivery, so we have plenty of bread and rolls, and we also have some Warburtons bread. Our milk delivery from Graham’s Dairies got through too.

Saturday/Sunday girl Kelsea has moved on to full-time pastures new, so we’re looking for a new member of staff.

The job: mostly serving customers, checking in new stock, and stock replenishment and rotation, but also some tidying, cleaning, and a dozen other things.

The hours: Saturday 6am to 1pm, Sunday 8am to 1pm, every second weekend. Extra hours often available if you’re interested.

The pay: £10.60 per hour, and a 10% discount on most products.

The person: Age 18+. Reliable, with good interpersonal skills. Retail experience is a plus, but not essential. Might suit a student as a lot of extra shifts are available during holiday periods.

After the other week’s successful giveaway, here’s another.

Between 7 and 8 tonight we are giving away all the bacon, sausages, lorne, pies and more that is clogging up my spare freezer (not the one that got switched off). It was being kept for personal use after reaching its expiry date in the shop. Realistically, I’m never going to eat it all and I’d rather have the space for something I can sell.

Share this post please, I’d really like to get rid of everything, and there’s a lot - nearly a chest freezer full.

My backup freezer has been switched off all night, and I have a TON of partially defrosted ice cream (Mackie’s, Ben&Jerry’s), and some pizzas. Come and help yourself asap. It’ll all be getting binned in a few hours.

Some of you will already have enjoyed some free apples from outside Johnshaven Stores, provided by Chris Greene’s extremely productive apple tree.

He’s just brought down two more boxes of apples, and he says there will be the same again in a couple of days, once he gets his hoversuit working.

I don’t know what variety they are, but the reddish ones are like a tastier Royal Gala. Come and help yourself to as many as you can eat.

After a break of a few years we are again selling free range* duck and hen eggs from Crowhillock Farm near Kinneff. The duck eggs in particular are noted for being affa good.

The hen eggs are £1.50 per half dozen and the duck eggs are £2.00 per half dozen.

*due to the danger of bird flu all free range hens and ducks in the U.K. are currently being kept indoors and the eggs are classed as “barn eggs”.

Our collection box for Ukraine raised £204.08 over the last month, and this money has been paid to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine appeal. Thanks to Carol for making the fairy cakes that started us off, and thanks to everyone who contributed.

You might have heard rumours that a TV company is going to be filming in Johnshaven in the near future. Well, for once, the rumours are true.

Disney are filming a new series called Wedding Season, which is to be shown on Disney+ next May. They are filming in Johnshaven Stores this Sunday, and on the road outside the shop on Monday.

As a result, our opening hours will be:

Sunday: 7am to 9:45am
Monday: closed all day

Please ensure you have all your essentials before we close on Sunday morning or, even better, on Saturday.

A newspaper delivery service will operate on Monday only. If you would like your paper delivered on Monday, please ask.
