Now, for a few short weeks you can buy fresh Seville Oranges & make your own marmalade. 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗿 in Tre'r Ddôl is one of the few local shops that sells them. They sell fast, but we usually get fresh stocks in a couple of times a week. So hurry on down before the season ends.

And if you miss them, we also sell a range of Welsh Lady marmalade, jam & chutney all year round.

I'm sure many of us resolved to eat healthily this year, and include more FRUIT (ffrwyth) in our diet. A popular fruit is the PEAR (gellygen pl. gellyg). Tasty (blasus), convenient (cyfleus), can be popped in a packed lunch, or made into a crumble. Works well in salads too. And part of the range of fresh fruit stocked by Cletwr.

e.g. Ga i bedwar gellygen plîs (can I have four pears please).

Notes: 4 is pedwar (masc) also pedair (fem). In Cymraeg you use a singular noun after a number, so 4 gellygen (4 pear) NOT 4 gellyg (4 pears). And four candles = pedair canwyll (Cletwr sometimes sells them)

Beans! Ffa yn Cymraeg (ffeuen singular). There is so much to say about ffa - but I won't post the clip from 'Blazing Saddles'. Cletwr stocks a selection of tinned beans (ffa tun), mainly from Suma Wholefoods (a wholefood co-op who supply a great range of wholefoods - bwydydd cyflawn). You can get butter beans (ffa gwynion 'white beans'), broad beans (ffa llydain 'wide beans'), runner beans (ffa dringo 'climbing beans'), kidney beans (ffa cochion 'red beans') and lots more (a llawer mwy)

'Sdim yr un ffeuen 'da fi - I haven't a bean / I'm broke.

Yes, we also sell traditional baked beans (ffa pob) but that's for another day.

Today you get an extra word (gair ychwanegol). The word is ‘Rhodd’ which means a gift or donation (you can guess what this is leading up to…).

‘Rhodd’ is a very important word.

Just before Christmas we launched a JustGiving campaign to raise £30,000. Thanks to our wonderful supporters (over 300 so far) it’s already fast approaching £20,000.

This support will to give us time to re-organise things and put the whole enterprise on a firm foundation for the future.

Since Cletwr opened in 2013, we've had regular exhibitions (arddangosfa pl. arddangosfeydd) of by local (artistiaid lleol) in the Oriel (gallery) in our Caffi. Admission is free. Just come in, grab a coffee and have a browse.

The exhibitions change every couple of months. A new exhibition (arddangosfa newydd) by Flic Eden has just opened. There will be an open evening with the artist at 6pm on 17th Jan. All welcome.

Mae'n Tymor Marmalêd! It's Marmalade season!

Okay, every day is a marmalêd day - ask Paddington. But for a few short weeks you can buy fresh Orennau Sefil (Seville Oranges) & make your own. Cletwr sells them, of course, and sugar. They sell fast, but we usually get fresh stocks in a couple of times a week. We also sell a range of Welsh Lady marmalêd all year round.

Making marmalêd is pretty easy. We even provide printed recipes. How about a nice dark, chunky Oxford marmalade (Marmalêd Rhydychen)? And you can put a splash of booze in for an added kick!

The service has Home Energy Officers working across Wales who visit and assess homes for free. They offer expert advice and can help you find funding if repairs or improvements are needed to keep a home warm.

We mustn't forget about food for the most important members of the family - the (cathod or cathau - singular cath). And no, Cletwr doesn't sell dead mice (llygod) or rats (llygod Ffrengig, lit French mice!). We have a very efficient system of rodent control. But we do sell a small selection of wet and dry food (bwyd cath gwlyb or bwyd cath sych).

Cats feature in a lot of idioms "Mynd fel cath i gythraul" (to go like a cat to hell) is the equivalent of 'go like a bat out of hell'. And 'Cario'r cath' (lit: to carry the cat) means to have crossed arms!

Is it yoghourt or yogurt or yoghurt? Actually, it's none of them. In Cymraeg it's iogyrt or iogwrt (both m.) We sell many flavours (blas pl blasau) of iogwrt, mainly made from Welsh milk (llaeth Cymreig) by Llaeth Y Llan / Village Dairy . So you can ask "Oes iogwrt mafon 'da chi?" (Do you have any raspberry yoghourt?) We also sell big pots of lovely creamy Greek-style iogwrt (iogwrt Groegaidd)

But not all iogwrt comes from a buwch odro (dairy cow). Some comes from plants, so suitable for Vegans (Feganiaid). But it's perfect for everyone, 'cos it's lysh mun.

Following our successful Autumn Feast in November we're holding a Winter Feast THIS FRIDAY, 10th! Cottage pie and roast seasonal veg, followed by a fruity meringue dessert with ice-cream. 7.30-9.30pm, £15 adults, £8 children. Have you stopped off at Caffi Cletwr between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth for a welcome cup of our Teifi Coffee and a wee?

Well, we need your help. The combined problems of the last few years – Covid, inflation, electricity prices, wage rises and storms – have finally caught up. We need to raise some urgent cash to see us through the winter. We’re discussing a substantial long-term loan that will let us re-organise and build a solid foundation for the future, but that won’t be finalised for a few months, and in the meantime we have wages and bills to pay.

Cletwr is more than just a caffi and a shop. It's a place where people meet and things happen - it's the heart of our community.
