It's been a truly Majestic couple of days at this year's London Wine Fair, as our colleagues came away with an incredible haul of nine prestigious team and individual accolades.

At the Drinks Business Awards on Tuesday, Majestic took home FIVE prizes – more than any other business:

At the Wine Buyers Awards earlier in the day, Matthew Fowkes was awarded Supermarket & Multiple Wine Buyer of the Year, with judges recognising his ability to source unique, off-the-beaten track wines and grow sales in difficult categories. Our new colleagues at Vagabond also took home some silverware after being crowned Best On-Trade Buying Team.

And on day one of the Fair, Buyer Zara Cassidy and our PR and Events Coordinator Chloe Freeman were both named among Harpers 30 Under 30 list for 2024. Harpers praised Zara’s "commitment to sustainability, which shines through so much of what she does at Majestic", including in our Wine Club subscription cases. Chloe made the list as a result of her "strategic foresight and creative decision-making", helping to drive sales of new Majestic products including our Chosen By Majestic and Definition BY Majestic own-brand ranges.

TASTING CALENDAR UPDATE: We've added two new dates to our calendar>

On 22 May we'll be looking at how mountains, valleys, ocean currents and lakes play a huge part in making your wine taste like it does, and we'll taste a whole range of wines that taste the way they do because of how geography affects their terroir.

On Wednesday 12 June we'll dip into Italy, starting with the North. Home to some iconic (and sometimes, but not always) startlingly expensive wines, there's real diversity here, and not a few bargains.

If you'd like to know more about wine, why not join us one evening for a Discovery tasting and find out what's out there. It's the most fun way there is to find your new favourite wine!

Discovery Tastings – New Topics

For April and May, we've been playing around with some ideas for our Discovery Tastings:

On Wednesday 17 April we have If You Liked That, You'll Like This. If you like Sauvignon Blanc, or Merlot, and you fancy exploring and trying something new, this session is for you. We'll be trying wines that will give you the enjoyment of your familiar favourites, but maybe with a bit of a twist.

On Wednesday 1 May the topic will be Latitude and Altitude, showing differing locations and climates can affect the same grape, and how growing grapes in the mountains can moderate the heat of an otherwise low latitude.

Finally, on Wednesday 15 May, in Tasting...Notes we'll be exploring how music can affect the taste of wine. Does Riesling taste the same with Bach on the speakers as it does with John Coltrane? Bit experimental, this, but we'll give it a go.

As always, there will be some exciting wines open, and we'll be there to give you some context to what's in your glass.
