The Megan's Starr Foundation was started after 14-year-old Megan Evans took her own life after being the victim of cyberbullying. Since its inception, it has provided over 1170 hours of FREE professional and peer mental health support to young people in their community who are suffering from their mental health. They have given help and advice to both young people and parents on a range of issues such as bullying, self-confidence issues, discrimination, employability skills and so much more.

Muma Nurture supports those across Sussex affected by infertility, pregnancy and perinatal death (baby loss), through counselling, holistic therapies and groups. Although often quite hidden the issues they support affect up to 55% of people.
Throughout the pandemic, Muma Nurture continued to provide counselling online and demand has continued to increase. More recently, they have acquired new premises and started work to rebuild their community and reduce the isolation that covid has exacerbated within it. People can now attend counselling and groups face to face and have human contact with others like them often strengthening their support networks outside of the support which can be given to them through the charity. 100% of people supported by Muma Nurture report an increase in mental health and emotional wellbeing after support.

Laffletics provides sports and social activities for people with disabilities from ages 7yrs upwards. All members have some form of disability, from learning to physical, and some attend the sessions purely for the social environment. They cover a variety of sports including football, athletics, cricket, hockey, basketball, yoga and more. Laffletics promote inclusion and are run by volunteers who mentor, support and encourage their members to join in. The group also regularly welcomes young people from local schools who participate as part of their D of E award volunteering.

Since the start of the pandemic when the group formed, the group has expanded making thousands of items by knitting, sewing, and crocheting for many different organisations and ages of people. Soft toys go to several different hospitals for children, Worry Monsters and Worry Worms as well as heart pairs for those helping children with problems, and Items for neonatal and stillbirth units in hospitals, as well as dementia mats, cuffs, and cushions for use in care homes. Hats, scarves, and gloves are made for homeless organisations. Dignity capes for cancer patients. The list of recipients and items is constantly changing.

Let's Go Vegan! - Spicy Pasta with Mushrooms Recipe 🍲

Spicy Pasta with Mushrooms
A quick and easy low-fat dish
Serves 4 • Prep time: approx. 5 minutes • Cooking time: approx. 25 minutes
Ingredients
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 250g SPAR mushrooms, thickly sliced
• 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
• Small bunch parsley leaves
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• 1 celery stick, finely chopped
• 400g tin of SPAR chopped tomatoes
• ½ red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
• 300g SPAR pasta of your choice
Method
1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add the mushrooms, then fry over a high heat for 3 minutes until golden and softened.
2. Add the garlic, fry for 1 minute more, then tip into a bowl with the parsley. Add the onion and celery to the pan with the rest of the oil, then fry for 5 minutes.
3. Stir in the tomatoes, chilli and a little salt, then bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes until thickened.
4. Meanwhile, boil the pasta, then drain. Toss with the sauce, top with the mushrooms, then serve.

Crunchy Baked Chickpeas
Choose from a sweet or savoury version – or make both!
Serves 4 • Prep time: approx. 10 minutes • Cooking time: approx. 30 minutes
Ingredients for Sweet Chickpeas
• 1 x 400g tin of chickpeas
• 2 tbsp Demerara sugar
• 1 tbsp cinnamon
• ¼ tsp salt
• 1 tbsp SPAR vegetable oil
Ingredients for Savoury Chickpeas
• 1 x 400g tin of chickpeas
• 3 tsp paprika
• 1 tsp black pepper
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tbsp SPAR vegetable oil
Method
1. Heat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 6.
Drain and rinse the chickpeas under cold water.
2. Dry the chickpeas thoroughly using kitchen towel.
3. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Lay the chickpeas on the tray and bake for 15 minutes.
4. Prepare your sweet or savoury coating by mixing the dry ingredients together.
5. Remove the chickpeas from the oven, drizzle over the oil and stir to coat them evenly.
6. Sprinkle on the sweet or savoury mixture. Stir to coat and return to the oven for 15 minutes.
7. Enjoy straight away or store in an airtight container at room temperature.
