Reflecting on our competitions so far in Winter Term...🗣️🗣️

Over January and February, LSE had the pleasure of attending Copenhagen Open, Trinity IV and Manchester IV

We had so much fun competing and hope to see everyone again next year!

Over the winter break, LSE competed in the World University Debate Championships (WUDC) in Panama City 🇵🇦🌟

We had so much fun meeting new debaters from many different institutions (shoutout to Harvard and Cornell!) as well as exploring the city itself. From gathering spec at the museum, exploring the famous Canal, to even eating the Panamanian version of Chinese dimsum- we made countless memories we’ll never forget! ✈️☀️🌅

In terms of results, LSE A broke 38th in the Open category and advanced to Octofinals!

We had an amazing time and are looking forward to seeing you all next year! 👋

Looking back on Cambridge IV 2024:

It was a pleasure to be involved this year- we made sure to come back with some awards, of course!

Our judges were Dominic and Rayaan.

Dominic broke as a judge and went on to panel the Open Semifinals of the competition!

LSE B Broke 16th in the Open category and advanced to the Open quarterfinals.

As for speaker awards:
* Stefan was awarded 10th best ESL speaker
* ⁠Aniket was awarded 8th best Open speaker

Reflecting on Oxford IV 2024:

We had an amazing experience and are so grateful to be back for another year!

The results were…
In terms of team awards:
* LSE A Broke 5th in the Open Category and advanced to the Open Semifinals of the competition.
* LSE D Broke 2nd in the Novice category and advanced to the Novice Finals of the competition

As for speaker awards:
* Michele was awarded the 4th best novice speaker
* ⁠Stefan was awarded the 8th best English as a Second Language (ESL) speaker

Our Resident Romanian Stefan returns as treasurer this year! 😱

Stefan sure does have a strong grasp on finances, with a strong work ethic enough to earn more than most villages in Romania (unclear as to how).

We hope he balances the sheets more than he balances his arguments but will not be surprised if he flees with all our funds as he’s close to retirement age (22). After all, academia won’t fund his passion for fashion (Uniqlo)

Next up, our External Vice President Mihika!

Mihika is a very nice person so please don’t be scared of her Valley girl accent (she didn’t go to a fancy boarding school she’s just, unfortunately, actually from the Valley). Unofficially, her duties as External VP include “pep” and promoting “society spirit” - she’s determined to patent an official society handshake this year and is already working on a long list of games for everyone to play on the various trains and flights to tournaments. She can’t tell you these are mandatory but she’s also the one in charge of tournament reg so it’s probably best to play along…

Mihika is also aspiring to become cooler than she currently is so she’s always down for all the random things you want to do in London that no one else will agree to do with you - from visiting a hidden Turkish/Indian fusion restaurant to watching a 3-hour psychedelic silent film at a vintage cinema (both of which she’s done).
