Finding mature Monfortino in great condition is tough, but finding it in these massive formats? Nearly impossible. Straight from a private Italian collector’s cellar, these 13-litre (yes, thirteen) bottles of Monfortino are something truly special. This rare format, Quarto di Brenta, comes from an old Piedmontese measurement (~55L for a full Brenta). A few vintages, including 1955 and 1961, were bottled in this size at Giacomo Conterno, though records are scarce. A true collector’s dream. Available on request – enquire via DM.

Accomasso's rigorously traditional, old-school Barolos provided a jarring contrast to those of his neighbors in La Morra's Annunziata district, which was at the time home to many modernist producers. Thrilled to have found a new ̶h̶o̶m̶e̶ cellar for this incredible rarity: the 1967 Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva Speciale Martinenga. This exceptional wine was made only once, as the Martinenga vineyard—Barbaresco’s sole monopole—belongs to the Gresy family. After this vintage, they family took full control of the vineyard, producing wines exclusively under their own label. A true piece of history in the glass!

The greatest Solaia ever? Produced by the famous Florentine wine family Antinori, Solaia was one of the forerunners of the super Tuscan phenomenon. The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese blend shows a massive concentration of fruit and tannins, yet it comes across as balanced and harmonious. It’s a wine for a long-term aging. Winemaker Renzo Cotarella says he is not sure if he will ever make a better wine than the 1997 Solaia. Now in stock

1964 Vintage? Completed it ✔️

After our recent 2004 Barolo Dinner, last night was dedicated to one of the vintages of the century: 1964. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our private clients and celebrate a selection of Barbaresco and Barolo on their 60th anniversary. The evening was full of surprises, with very few disappointments. Highlights included Prunotto Barbaresco Riserva "Caffè Torino" and Barolos from Oddero, Sobrero, and Giuseppe Mascarello, all showing exceptionally well. In a league of their own were the 1964s from Giacomo Conterno: Riserva degli Amici, Monfortino, and the Barolo Riserva, probably the star of the night alongside Bartolo Mascarello’s Barolo.

Thanks to everyone who attended and to for the wonderful hospitality.

Bolgheri is the source for some of Italy’s greatest proprietary red wine blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. No other region in the world (other than Pomerol and St.-Emilion) has produced such great Merlots. The 1998 Guado Al Tasso (a 60% Cabernet Sauvignon/30% Merlot/10% Syrah blend) was fashioned from extremely small yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare, spent 14 months in 100% new French oak, and was bottled with minimal clarification. Malolactic was also done in barrel, so the wood is nicely assimilated. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1998 offers a glorious perfume of coffee, chocolate, blackberries, cassis, and vanillin. Dense, rich, supple-textured, and fruity as well as elegant, it will drink well for 10-12 years. Coming Soon...

1997 Brunello Biondi-Santi. A Classic. Intense ruby overlaid with garnet. Very fresh aromas of ripe plum, cherry and pipe to***co. Sweet cherry fruit emerges in the mouth, along with hints of licorice, mint, sage and white pepper. A high-toned, vibrant, elegant wine, displaying a lovely sense of balance and delineation. The texture is glossy and the tannins are full but polished. Shows no trace of heaviness or hard edges in spite of its ample structure, and closes long and sweet. A deeply satisfying Brunello from this venerable estate, and the best in many years. Coming Soon...

War era Barolos are incredibly hard to find. Today it is virtually impossible to imagine what conditions must have been like in Piedmont during this period, not just because of politics, but because in the 1940s Piedmont was very poor and much more agrarian than it is today.
