Tasting perfection in a glass. This Pinot Bianco Rarità 1991 Terlano, aged 25 years in the tank before release, is truly magical. I simply can’t think of how this could be any better, Italy's greatest white?

Every wine tells a story, but these magnums of Bartolo Mascarello hold a special one. Recently acquired from a private collector closely tied to Bartolo Mascarello, these bottles come from the baker (fornaio, in Italian) of Priocca. The original owner and Bartolo shared a deep friendship, and this collection is a beautiful reminder of their bond. Stay tuned for more photos. Expect these rare gems to be available by the end of June. Feel free to get in touch to find out more...

Every wine tells a story, but these magnums of Bartolo Mascarello hold a special one. Recently acquired from a private collector closely tied to Bartolo Mascarello, these bottles come from the baker (fornaio, in Italian) of Priocca, a small village in Langhe. The original owner and Bartolo shared a deep friendship, and this collection is a beautiful reminder of their bond. Stay tuned for more photos. Enjoying this 54-year old gem from Produttori del Barbaresco:

"Tawny in colour, graduating to a wide orange rim. Classic aromas of dry leather, pressed flowers, and joss sticks, with subtle nuances of barbeque smoke, roasted stalked herbs and licorice. The entry is soft, with licorice stick and marinated cherry, and a chalky texture that gives the wine a linear line. Delicate tannins frame the wine beautifully, to which the sweeter fruit notes caress the palate without being overpowering. The lively acidity keeps this nicely layered wine narrow and focused. Long in length, the wine leaves with a lingering freshness." Not too bad for a Barbaresco "normale"...

"Never judge a book by its cover" (or a wine by its label, in this case): Despite being a 'forgotten' vintage, the 1964 Chateau Latour was somewhat of a revelation outperforming its younger brothers, '67 and '70 (the bottles speak for themselves, really). All in all, GRAND VINS(s) indeed...

Originally kept as part of the family's personal reserve, the Crichet Pajé was eventually introduced to the market in 1978. This wine does not only celebrate the potential of the plot found at higher altitudes (the term Crichet means “high part of the small hill”), but also Giovanni Roagna's vision and hard work over the years. Fast forward more than four decades, absolute class....

It was a real treat to visit our friends in Singapore and host a "Ten Years On" Barolo 2014 event at 67 Pall Mall

2014 was a challenging vintage that threw up some disappointing, diluted wines, however, on this showing there plenty of freshly aromatic, well balanced wines.

The wines tasted were as follows:

Barbaresco Montestefano 2014 La Ca Nova
Barolo Monvigliero 2014 Fratelli Alessandria
Barolo Ravera 2014 Elvio Cogno
Barolo Sarmassa 2014Brezza
Barolo Cannubi 2014 Francesco Rinaldi
Barolo Ginestra 2014 Diego Conterno
Barolo Villero 2014 Fenocchio
Barolo Margheria 2014 Massolino
Barolo Pie Rupestris 2014 Cappellano

The wines overall showed well with the Montestefano displaying the class and potency of Barbaresco in this vintage. The Monvigliero and Cannubi both exhibited quite powerful expressions of those two vineyards with great aromatic intensity. The Ravera was still quite closed but with good backbone. The Ginestra and Villero were a touch more rustic but had good depth and character and have plenty of years ahead. The Margheria was more flattering and drinking well now whilst the Pie Rupestris was also a complex but elegant charmer. The Brezza was disappointing with the bottle showing signs of early ageing and dilution.

Very good vertical tasting very well hosted by and yesterday evening. The new style of the property tweaked by the current winemaker Alessandro is impressive with the 2017 and 2018 both excelling. A property to watch going forward.

A rare beast made from Trebbiano and Malvasia between 1982 and 1999 by Montevertine. Have now enjoyed the fabulous, oily and rich 1988 and this classy more restrained 1995. Fascinating wines and part of a new cellar arriving soon.
