Let’s be honest Vagabonders, it wouldn’t be a quintessentially English Spring without a few downpours. As you all know we can only serve outside at the moment so we’re bringing you BYOB - bring your own brolly. Launching today until 17th May, head down to any Vagabond in the rain with your brolly, snap it, share it with and let a member of the team know when your done and they’ll bring you a glass of rosé to drink under the comfort of your umbrella.

To make it even dryer (no pun intended), it isn’t just any old rosé it’s our Vagabond English Rosé made by our Winemaker in Battersea Power Station.

There’s no time like the present to dig out that raincoat and grab your brolly. Who doesn’t love a free glass of rosé, even if it means having to endure a bit of drizzle?

T&Cs apply.

Weekend vibes ahoy!
For the first time in months this Friday has actually 'felt' like a Friday. If your diary is bulging with 'groups of six outdoors’ get togethers we reckon we’ve got the perfect bottle to help you re-learn socialising.
Our exclusive Tuscan producer Basile is the work of Giovann Basile and his family. Growing his vines high up in the Montecucco hills. He farms organically and biodynamically, the estate is mainly planted with the great indigenous Sangiovese grape (of Chianti fame) but he has a small amount of Vermentino too.
It’s this white wine we think you need right now. It’s fresh, direct, bone dry, tangy, aromatic and tense. There’s a free-spirited, playful side to it too. Scents of dry grass, lemon-balm, chamomile, candied citrus peel and just sliced pear. It’s got a bright, piercing, citrus-fresh style which slowly reveals a saltier, herb-like flavour profile. One of those wines it’s hard to explain. More of a 'feelings and moods' wine than a mere set of flavours. We’re pretty sure one glass of this just won’t cut it!

2018 LARRY CHERUBINO Laissez Faire Syrah, Great Southern, Western Australia

Winter’s final cold hand has spread throughout Europe this week. Vineyards everywhere are reeling after their green shoots were literally nipped in the bud. And the central heating is still on.
Where to turn under such circumstances? A crisp glass of Picpoul just wouldn’t be right. So it’s time for Syrah again. A grape that offers up both wild, animalistic opulence with savoury warmth and spice. Even its tannins have a comfort blanket type of texture. Drinking it right now is almost like a pagan rite of passage ushering us into the Spring. Don the antler helmet and indulge.
Syrah or Shiraz? It’s the same grape but Syrah suggest a wine that is less extreme in its sweet fruit, more stone and earth than jam or compote. Larry Cherubino is a winemaker who loves the classic Syrah wines from France's northern Rhône. Luckily the growing conditions of Great Southern bear comparison to that region. There’s a rugged, ragged edge to this that recalls Cornas that will please the Europhile palate. A bit of cracked black pepper, some bashed up thyme leaves, black olives and smoky pancetta waft up from the wine. A mouthful of squished blueberry wrapped around a heart of granite. Was that a sigh of contentment we just heard?
For those of us who value wholesome winemaking practices it’s great to know that this entirely made just from grapes and their wild yeasts. No enzymes to help the malolactic fermentation along, no ‘corrections’ from adding acid nor any smothering with new oak barrel flavours. Laissez Faire means to let things take their natural course. So this is suitably raw and pretty cool because of it. Just like us all right now having to go outside with our crazy-but-we-like-it-like-that lockdown hair. It’s available in our Ozzy wine flight via our online shop and in any Vagabond from next week!

Today we’re bringing you two phenomenal Australian wine icons side by side. This is wine equivalent of the De Niro v Pacino scene in Heat. A real heavyweight combo an no mistake.
Both of these bottles are rated 'Exceptional' in the current Langton's Classification of the greatest Australian wines. Only 20 other labels can make that same claim so we're dealign with some really serious vino here.

First up the 2013 BROKENWOOD Graveyard Shiraz. A beautiful rendering from the Hunter Valley. It's all too easy to lump all Aussie Shirazes under the 'bold and bountiful' category but Graveyard gives us something much more European in style. Medium bodied at 13.5% alcohol. There's a really intriguing incense and blueberry scent which turns savoury and meaty. With seven, nearly eight, years on the dial already this is now into a happy drinking spot but expect it to continue its evolution through to 2030, possibly beyond.

Then we turn to Canberra's superstar, the 2017 CLONAKILLA Shiraz-Viognier. The combination of a small amount of Viognier is a technique borrowed from Syrah's 'ground zero' in France's Cote Rotie zone. It increases the aromatic complexity and brings an extra zip to the wine. Again, not the heavy black wine we might expect. A much more subtle, entrancing wine that twists through soy sauce, ginger, blackcurrant, pepper and ginger scents. Svetle in texture and wonderfully pure and balanced. If Burgundy grew Syrah instead of Pinot noir it'd likely turn out like this.

While both will age further in bottle (under the right conditions) there is no harm in twisting the tops and discovering the considerable charms within them right now. Available on our online store now.

The phrase ‘Last Chance Saloon’ is on our lips again... The countdown is on for Lockdown 2.0. But, for now, all of the Vagabond stores are open until 10pm Wednesday evening. We’re all fully masked up and ready to serve you at the table.

We also encourage you to get browsing the bottle selection in our online store. We’re busy adding more to it this week. In addition to the newly released 2019 Vagabond Winery range there’s a veritable geek-fest of eclectic, rare and deluxe wines in there. There's plenty of others much more suited to softening the edges of another day of Zoom meetings and stay indoor frustration too. We deliver all over the UK. It’s not just a London thing. Your clicks make us think we’re going to be OK.

From Thursday onwards it will only be retail sales, albeit only at some of our stores. That means our doors remain open at these stores, wines are for sale and we don’t mind at all if you want to panic buy everything you can get your hands on.

We’ll happily sell to anyone who can put a mask on correctly for the few minutes it will take to come inside the store and make a purchase. But if you are in the we will not comply grumpy brigade please order online.

Wine has been around humanity in one form or another for 8000 years and we don’t see that relationship changing in 2020. We’re very positive that we can see this month long hiatus out and re-surface covered in tinsel in December.

🚨🚨 JOIN OUR FIGHT - SIGN OUR PETITION AND MAKE REAL CHANGE 🚨🚨

We’re calling on the U.K. government to unify our country by allowing us to transform ATMs into APMs. We truly believe in fulfilling the Brits’ demand for bubbles, and know that we will see a much more positive attitude, and perhaps a close in the gap that divides our nation.

We encourage the government and U.K. banks to take this call from the people very seriously. We will not back down without a fight.
