Calling all Riesling fans! Every Thursday, we open wines for a free drop-in tasting in the shop - tomorrow we’ll be tasting SIX Rieslings from Dönnhoff’s 2022 range.

Dönnhoff are one of Germany’s greatest wine estates. Cornelius Dönnhoff’s careful winemaking consistently produces wines of real precision and clarity at humane prices.

Each of these wines are part of a special mixed case offer containing three bone dry wines (including a GG!), and three wines in off-dry styles (including a Spätlese from the Nahe’s top vineyard).

We’ll be opening the wines at 12 on Thursday and pouring all afternoon - check out the link in our bio to learn more, or just pop in, take advantage of our outrageous generosity, and find out what makes Dönnhoff such a treasured producer!

Our final visit was to the imposing cellars of - 65 year old barrels in a 700 year old cellar, perched on the hillside of La Morra looking out over the rest of the region.

The buy for the thinking person. A gem of a wine here. have smashed this delightful 2016 Yu-Ki Estate Pinot Noir out of the park. AND it comes in halves! Perfumed and elegant with wonderful concentration, this wine is in a superb place. The nose takes you immediately to the redwood forest that surrounds this vineyard - the perfect antidote to the drizzle/downpour outside today. Cheers!

A truly special morning tasting some fabulous spirits. Whilst the great may make some of the most sort after in the world, his current project is truly worth seeking out. As he tries to harness the purest expressions of terroir, great effort has gone into distilling the pomace of certain Lieux Dits to show how much terroir varies across these fabulous sites. With minute quantities made, it was a joy to try them all this morning. was certainly a happy camper. Thank you and for such an informative session.

What a glorious evening celebrating the birthday of . The and team have knocked it out the park for the past 10 years so a happy bloody birthday to you all. Umami bombs, fresh British produce and fantastic company meant for a cracker of an evening. The wines from the ever delicious flowed freely and much frivolity was had!!

A gastronomic affair last night! Rolling out of the sensuous last night, having drank a vertical of from 2016-2020, amongst terrific company, the thought ‘If only every Tuesday could be like this’ sprang to mind. Verticals always offer the imbiber a wonderful opportunity to compare and discover, to go on a journey over the course of a few hours. ‘16 is a baby, ‘17 and ‘20 were standouts, ‘18 is more approachable whilst still continuing to develop in the glass, and ‘19 was special too. The rhythm of the evening set by and was like that of an orchestra in full swing. Having loved Xier, new levels have been hit at and I can’t wait to see where this team will go. The sky is the limit. What a fabulous lunch at yesterday courtesy of celebrating the wines of .

Jesús and Eduardo are a tour de force and their sherries are out of this world.

The ‘I Think’, with only around 2600 bottles made every year, is a racy, more approachable bottle of deliciousness. It has a wonderful minerality, saline grip and earthiness searing through its veins. The Colet Navazos is ‘different’ but not challenging. Here, an intriguing merge of north and south. The base wine is 100% Xarel.lo from the hills of the Penedés with it then being topped up with Palo Cortado and amontillado. Super cool. Super delicious.

La Bota 110 de Manzanilla Pasadena ‘Capataz Cabo’ is worth seeking out. It has a great ripeness of fruit as well as awesome concentration. This is all backed up by fabulous acidity which cuts through everything else.

I could go on and on about these wines but rather, I think you should try one for yourself. The world of Sherry is one of fascination and intrigue. Begone images of Nana and a Harvey’s Bristol Cream. are the real deal and I urge you to try one for yourself /TH

After 28 years of Uncorked in Exchange Arcade, the time has come to move on. We’re excited to be moving: on Monday we will be opening the doors of our new premises at 22 Copthall Avenue. Copthall is bigger, smarter, and more suited to the way we work now. The temperature and humidity control are a wonder to behold. (It’s great for the bottles, but if you like a leisurely browse, bring a jumper). We haven’t moved far, but it’s a move that is taking us from the periphery of the City of London right to its heart.

We had to postpone our original opening day 28 years ago when Exchange Arcade flooded. This time, with our servers moving into the cloud, we are more worried about the IT. Our original business plan (12 different wines on tasting every day) didn’t survive contact with reality, but with a spirit of adaptability at the helm, Uncorked has thrived. We’ve learned a lot along the way. For instance, you can’t do en primeur without also doing storage. We now store some 30,000 cases of wine for 1,000 customers. Much of our time these days is spent managing and re-selling customer stocks. Thank you all for your trust, and thank you also to the many, many others who buy wine from us.

So here’s to the next 28 years. Come and see us from Monday in Copthall Avenue – we’ll be delighted to see faces old and new alike. Thirsty Thursday tastings will be taking place as usual, and could be a perfect opportunity to survey our new premises with a glass of something well-chosen in your hand.
