A few new wines on our shelves to kick-start the new year.

CASTEL DEL LUPO BARBERA £15.95
This organic l, unoaked Barbera is a new project from Castel del Lupo and has nags of red berry fryit and bright acidity.

BOBAL SERICIS £16.95
a complex old vines, low yielding Bobal from eastern Spain. An indigenous grape variety that is getting more attention for its bouncy and characterful style.

CHATEAU DE CERONS COUCHER DE SOLEIL ORANGE WINE £34.95
a white wine made in the style of a red with fermentation on the skins for 5 weeks. Deep gold with orange reflections, pithy marmalade and gentle peach aromas on the nose, followed by surprising saffron, yellow cider apples and gentle tannins creating a dance of sweet and savoury in the mouth.

More festive suggestions, today's choice Chateau Feytit-Guillot Pomerol.
A small but much admired estate in Bordeaux's right bank.
The vineyard at Château Feytit-Guillot is primarily planted with Merlot, the dominant grape in the region, which thrives in the clay-rich soils typical of Pomerol. Merlot lends the wine its characteristic plush, velvety texture, and ripe, fruit-driven flavours. Cabernet Franc is also grown in smaller quantities and incorporated into the blend, bringing additional structure, aromatic complexity, and fresh acidity. The balance between Merlot and Cabernet Franc creates a wine that is both opulent and approachable in its youth while also capable of ageing gracefully over time.

It was a family affair from the MHW gang when we attended the Big Festive Fete for the 40th anniversary event on Sunday!

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were honoured to serve the mulled wine 🍷Thanks for having us Finchley!

Nothing like starting the seasonal social calendar than with a visit from Andrew of Thorman Hunt for our last tasting of the year.
Thorman are a family run supplier operating since 1978. Keeping us, independents stocked with super quality, small grower wines and spirits.
Andrew effortlessly took us through traditional method sparkling Muscadet, Grand Cru Champagne, Pouilly Fume, Languedoc Chardonnay, Brouilly, Gigondas, Napa Valley Zinfandel and an elegantly sweet, lightly fizzy Moscato d’Asti.
It is always a delight to hear Andrew converse on the subject of wine. His experience and affection for the topic make for a very entertaining evening.
Judging from sales the Château des Tours Brouilly was the crowd favourite. A versatile red that can be served lightly chilled. My personal fave was the Turley Zinfandel. A massive 15.3% vol with lush fruit and impeccable balance.
We’ve had some exceptional tasting evenings this year and we aim to bring you more next year.
Massive thanks to Andrew. We really appreciate all you do for us, and it was great to see a real mix of old and new faces turn up for the event. As always thanks to you guys as well.

Tonight is our winter wine tasting with Andrew from Thorman Hunt. Tickets sold out in super quick time and with a line up like this, we can see why!

We welcomed back Gabriela Moncada after a 5 year absence last Thursday for a fascinating foray into the history and techniques of the Mexican Agave industry.
We tried Tequila, which is Mezcal and Mezcal, which isn’t Tequila & Raicilla which isn’t either but is Agave and Sotol which actually isn’t Agave but Dasylirion wheeleri !
Confused? No need to be. Pop in for more info on the range, which went down exceedingly well with a very up for it crowd.
Huge thanks to Gabriella. We are not going to leave it as long until next time and discussions are already underway for a possible cocktail night. As are plans for next years tasting events. Do you have any thoughts on what we should be hosting. Let us know?
Also huge thanks to our tasters. I think the photos are testament to the fun we had.

Halo wines started supplying us this year. They are a small but incredibly talented team of wine enthusiasts that source unique and special wines from across Europe.
Jamie, our man from Halo was in Thursday evening for our latest tasting and he brought a selection of brilliant wines.
We got to try grower Champagne, Guy de Forez Brut Tradition. 100% Pinot noir, a lovely balance of soft fruit, floral and mineral notes and a fine bubble.
Domaine de Boischampt, Beaujolais Blanc. A crisp, appley chardonnay made organically from a region famed for red wine.
Michel Sarrazin Givry Blanc, a fleshier Chardonnay from Burgundy with pear, honeysuckle and subtle nutty & salted butter notes.
Settlement Sauvignon Blanc. Classy Marlborough, New Zealand white. With zesty, herbaceous apple & citrus fruit.
Ch Peyros Madiran, A dark inky Tannat dominated red. The palate is bramble fruit, black cherry and dusty tannins that add spice and texture.
Niepoort Vertente, a complex, elegant red from Portugal boasting rich dark berry fruit enhanced with floral, spice and graphite notes.
Chateau Feytit-Guillot Pomerol, outstanding right bank Bordeaux. Merlot dominated with plush dark cherry, cassis fruit, supple spice & silky tannins like only the Bordelais can do.
And to finish, a seasonal pick of Niepoort Tawny Dee port. A fruity youthful, tangy wine with dried fruits & nutty notes, that went down a storm with the crowd.
James was brilliant, friendly, concise. I am hoping this relationship with Halo will blossom for many years.
Thanks so much to him and as always, the lively crowd. Its always a pleasure to see you guys!
