Whisky or Whiskey? Here’s when and where to use each spelling! 🥃

Ever wondered why sometimes it’s spelled “whisky” and other times “whiskey”? The difference actually depends on the country of origin:

✨Whisky (without the “e”) is used in Scotland, Japan, and Canada. So, if you’re sipping on Scotch or a fine Japanese single malt, you’re drinking “whisky.”

✨Whiskey (with an “e”) is used in Ireland and the United States. If you’re enjoying a smooth Irish whiskey or a classic American bourbon, you’re drinking “whiskey.”

🍀 Rule of Thumb: If the country’s name has an “e” (Ireland, United States), it’s “whiskey.” If it doesn’t (Scotland, Japan, Canada), it’s “whisky.”

At Tomoka, we specialise in bringing you the finest of Whiskies with the majority being Irish whiskey, which is why you’ll often see us using the “whiskey” spelling. Since Irish whiskey is one of our main offerings, we stick with the spelling that reflects the rich heritage and tradition of these exceptional spirits.

A special edition of Indian single malt from the sunny Goan coasts, the Oloroso is a sensational explosion of incredible flavours. With dark mahogany hues, this exquisite expression presents an aromatic tapestry of sherry influenced fragrances of peach and apricot with a light note of molassess and blood orange. Sublimely finished in Oloroso casks, its soft flavours are filed with a nutty chocolate and Melton Hunt cake. The long finish is intense and sweet with delicious heavy spices imbibed from the Oloroso casks and melded with a dash of coffee mocha and sumptuous dark chocolate. . Join us for a wonderful evening learning about Lochlea whisky led by Patrick Dupuy. Lochlea is an independent family owned farm and distillery based in the Ayrshire region of Scotland. They oversee the whole process from growing their own barley to distilling their core range of seasonal single malts.

From the guys at comes this peaty number. Old Ballantraun 10yr is a pure delight. It’s their first age statement for this whisky with a punchy 50% ABV to make a statement. Soft spices and rich punchy peat notes with some inviting vanilla notes entertain your nose. The palate brings balance with a solid delivery of rich peat smoke and hints of black pepper and tar. An all round creaminess lingers to finish.
