Some of you may have seen a post from a disgruntled ex-employee regarding allegedly receiving counterfeit money in her pay from our establishment.
This is a false statement.
All employees of Spar are asked to check their pay when they collect it. This employee did so in the store on more than one occasion, and was satisfied at the time with her pay, which is evidenced by Video footage as well as by other current employees who have witnessed her collecting her pay. All staff are paid weekly and check their pay before leaving the store. All current staff can verify that I have never given counterfeit money and the statement regarding another employee receiving counterfeit money is also FALSE.
As to the overcharging of customers. We have never knowingly overcharged customers. As many of you are aware, the cost of living seems to be increasing almost every minute of every day and we would never want to add to that by overcharging our customers. We try to keep up with our price labels on a daily basis. If there is a discrepancy, on most occasions, the item(s) are honoured for the customer and then either the price is rectified or the label is replaced. Secondly, our tills have a screen which is visible to our customers so they can see what is being charged individually with a running total. And finally, the customer is always entitled to a receipt. To save on wastage we print on request as quite often customers decline the offer of a receipt.
We have had great success with employing staff, some have worked with us for over 20yrs! And due to health reasons may have had to retire, but still visit the shop on a daily basis. All staff past and present are willing to vouch for their experience of working at Spar.
We have been in our establishment for over 35 years and are a big part of the local community. We are proud to be part of this community and love to serve our customers. We always appreciate feedback, however as a small business we rely on repeat business and false statements such as the one that we are referring to can cause unnecessary and irreparable damage.
We will be contacting the former employee in question to remove her defamatory statement from social media, before we look to pursue for libel.
Currently we are not aware of a police investigation as alleged by the former employee. Should we be approached by the police, we will be happy to comply and provide any evidence that is required in order to settle this matter.
Thank you for your continued custom. We appreciate every single person who walks through our doors and look forward to serving you for many years to come with our friendly staff.
